Life Has a Way of Building Us

Life Has a Way of Building Us

I believe that most of the things that a person goes through in life is to prepare them for

the future and help to build them into the man or woman that they are supposed to be. You can call me old-fashioned, if you wish, but that is just my opinion. I know that for the twenty-seven almost twenty-eight years that I have been living that I’ve faced hardships, felt longing, wanting someone to want me and find the place where I belong and just to know that someone cares for me and that my actions have held some kind of influence to others and helping others along the way.

Ever since I was younger I had decided upon keeping records of the things I wrote. When I first started writing, I was in a world of confusion, due to I wanted my writings to appeal to those of others, so they weren’t nearly as good as what they are now and there are a few reasons for that. First off, I was beginning to write about nature and my thoughts on it and at that age I didn’t know half as much about nature as what I do now and so I found myself repeating the title of the poem repetitively. It got to the point where

it wasn’t even making sense to me. I realized after a short while that I was basically writing something down that had nothing to do with me at all.\

I began to try and put myself into my newly-found talent and make it more personal and really hit home and at that point I started getting really emotionally involved with my works of “art”. I found that I was able to express myself really well through writing poetry and so I continued to grow within it and broaden the topics of interest and find the things that I wrote about best. Some would call that inspiration and so would I. Starting out what inspired me to write was it gave me an outlet to let out what I wanted to say when I was furious, upset, or on “cloud 9”.

I realized that the things that I wrote best about and that I was able to draw inspiration out of were as follows: Friendship, Love, Lost Love, Family, Spiritual, Wanting, Longing. I stuck with it and I gave myself little challenges to help me along the growth of the poetic side of me by involving my friends in helping me to come up with titles for poems so that I may write based on a title and phrase.

I started out not really rhyming, but then I put more effort into it and started rhyming more, so most of my “older” stuff I then found out could be considered as “prose”.  Then, I started dabbling into different forms of poetry such as acronyms and the “abab” rhyming method. For those, who don’t know what the “abab rhyming method” is let me tell you that in a poem that is four lines to a stanza is that the first and third and the second and forth rhyme together, and for those who don’t know what an “acronym” is it is when you take a phrase or someone’s name and put each letter of the phrase down the left-side of the page and then write your poem based on the letters. That is the explanation on what an acronym is. I hope that I was able to clarify any confusion within this paper based on

my terminology.

As to what I’ve mentioned earlier, everything that a person faces and goes through happens to prepare them to be who they are supposed to be and build them up and I guess you can say that writing and I go hand in hand because I’ve reached the point where it has helped me to understand more about my feelings and where I’ve made certain mistakes to where I don’t make them happen again and am better prepared in case the situation happens again.
