The Coma (Part 25)

Tragedy Created on 8-12-07 Views(337) Story Rating G

The nurse left the room and the four of them alone. Sam stared over at Lydia, unmoving in his chair. Silence filled the room, the only sound being Emily cooing as she played with a stuffed giraffe. A silent knock came from behind them at the door. Lydia slowly turned around to see Doctor Michelson staring her in the face.

“Hello Lydia.” Mickey said; his voice full of anger and hate. “How are you?” He glanced from Joey to Sam and back at Lydia.

“Fine thanks.” She said quickly and stayed staring at him. A buzzing rang through the room and Mickey, startled, reached down into his pocket and pulled out a small cell phone.

“Excuse me.” He said quickly and answered the phone. “Hello…Yes… No, that can’t be… No I told them not to…Okay…Okay I’m on my way… Yep…Bye.” He hung up the phone and glanced over at Sam and Lydia. “I have to go. Can we talk tomorrow Lydia?” She reached down and shoved the printed papers of Enphinious farther into her purse to make sure they were out of site before replying.

“How about we talk the day after tomorrow? I won’t be here tomorrow.” She glanced over at Sam, who looked confused, and smiled.

“Okay. Come and get me in my office, so I won’t have to call for you all day like today.” Lydia nodded and Mickey walked out of the room.

“So who was that?” Sam asked quietly, staring out the door after him.

“Therapist, Doctor Michael or something like that. I don’t know. He’s an ass and he hates me. That’s about it.” She raised her eyebrows and turned to look at Emily who was still playing with her giraffe.

“Why does he hate you?”

“I guess it’s because I yelled at him.” She laughed and Sam laughed along with her.

“That would make sense.” He furrowed his brows, “why can’t you be here tomorrow?”

“Don’t you remember?” She looked back at him. “You and I were going to spend the day together. Some of it was going to be alone. Right?” Sam smiled and nodded.

“Right, sorry.” He grinned and Lydia shook her head, rolling her eyes and laughing. The nurse ran back in with the blood, now in bags, in her hands. She quickly attached it to Joey’s I.V. and left. Lydia walked over to Joey with tears in her eyes and touched his face softly. He was starting to regain color and pink now flushed over at where she had touched. She mouthed one word to him, ‘Why?’ Tears rolled off her face and landed atop his, making it look as if he was the one crying. For a moment, Lydia couldn’t move, and when she finally could she wiped the tears off his face and backed away slowly.

No words were spoken as they started their drive home. Food had been forgotten and the only sounds in the car were the humming of the engine and Emily cooing softly. Lydia’s eyes darted around the car, carefully avoiding the windows. Her hands gripped the sides of the seat tightly, making her knuckles turn white. The drive seemed to take forever until finally they made it to Sam’s. It was an unspoken decision that Lydia would sleep there again.

“Lydia, are you alright?” Sam asked. The sound of his voice startled Lydia after the forty-five minutes of silence and she looked up at him quickly. The car had stopped in his driveway.

“Yeah.” She whispered as she quickly got out of the car and pulled Emily out with her. Emily smiled, reached up, and grabbed Lydia’s hair. Sam walked over to the two girls and smiled.

“May I hold her?” They laughed and Lydia handed Emily to him. Emily quickly stretched out her chubby arms and wrapped them around his neck. She smiled and cooed loudly at him.

“Of course.” Lydia smiled.

“Sorry, I just sort of missed her, you know?” Sam said quietly as he smiled back at Emily and playfully poked her. She laughed and smiled up at him with her drool smile that was starting to resemble Sam’s genuine crooked one. Another tooth was just beginning to poke out around the four or five others that Lydia could see. Lydia smiled at the two and walked behind them to the front door. They entered the house and immediately Lydia walked to the living room and lay down on the couch.

“I’m sleeping her tonight. I don’t like taking your bed, I feel bad.” She said, staring up at Sam as he entered the room. He sighed loudly and stared down at her, Emily sitting high atop his shoulders, clutching to his forehead.

“But then I feel bad.” He said quietly and Lydia rolled her eyes. “Alright, okay. So are you going to go to bed already then?” She nodded.

“Yeah, it’s been a long day you know?” Sam nodded.

“I’ll see you in the morning.” He whispered and walked out the door towards Emily’s room. Lydia lied awake for hours, though she had been extremely tired. Thoughts of Enphinious circled her thoughts. Enphinious and the burning whistle. Finally she fell asleep, thought tonight her dreams weren’t quite as pleasant as the night before.

Claw marks covered the walls. She had been trying to escape for hours. Her fingernails bled, her hands blistered. Her legs covered in cockroaches, circled with snakes. He dead son made small moaning seconds every few minutes and the room shook as soon as he did. A loud crashing sound filled them.

A scream echoed off the walls and she barely noticed that it was hers. Enphinious laughed loudly, his evil laugh mixing with her scream and making her jump. She hadn’t noticed him walk up behind her. Blood covered his hands, he smiled as he smeared it across her face and she backed up, trying to get away.

The knife in his hand forced its way towards her, cutting into the flesh of her arm. She screamed loud in pain and fell to the floor, holding her arm tightly as she tried to back away still. Though scooting along the floor didn’t get her away very fast. The blood was now pouring out of her arm quick and she knew she needed a doctor.

“Help!” She screamed out. At first no one came, then out of the corner of her eye she saw a flash of blonde and soon Jacob, the older version of him, was standing next to her. Carefully he knelt down and touched her arm, forcing her to let go of it as he held it tightly.

And suddenly the large gash was healed. She stared up at him in amazement and gratitude before realizing that Enphinious was still coming at her. He threw his knife, missing Lydia by half of an inch but plunging straight into Jacob’s heart.

“No!”
