She felt the hot tears make their way down her face and into her hands. She sat on her bed, waiting for the phone to ring—any sign that he was there.
She clicked the light off and all was dark. The window was open and the night was cool. She covered herself with the layers of blankets so that only her head was exposed. The cool air tingled on her right cheek, and the pillow brushed gently against the left. Her eyes drifted closed and thoughts of him filled her mind.
The two weeks without him felt like an eternity, and hope to be with him again was gradually slipping away. But it would always be there. Even the slightest bit, the smallest amount of hope would always exist—but chances were slim.
Consciousness drifted away, and so did her thoughts. Memories of his gentle touch, his handsome face, his sweet voice—
A sound.
A ringing in her ear.
Could...Could it be...?
She opened her eyes to the bright light of morning. She turned to look at the clock that flashed 7:00 AM. The alarm.
Her fragile heart shattered and she went on to live another day without him.
Sadly.
Broken-heartedly.
Completely alone.
