            My heart raced as I pulled my small pink halter top over my head, before shoving my legs into the knee high boots. I pulled on the long jacket I had been given to wear, then grabbed the money the man had left on the nightstand. I practically ran to the front door, my stomach turning with the thought of what I had just done.

            I kept my head down, as I walked swiftly down the dark narrow street, eager to get back to the apartment I lived in with Jackie and Beth, or my girls as I called them. I needed there support, seeing as how they had done this many times before, and it was my first time having sex for money.

            I pushed open the ugly green front door and raced up the flight of stairs to our two bedroom apartment. My boots collided loudly with the metal stairs as I walked, making me go even faster, not wanting to call any more attention to myself.

            As I pushed open the big red door to apartment, I thought for sure I was going to throw up. I kicked off my boots, and carried them into my bedroom. As I entered the tiny bedroom, I threw my overcoat onto the floor. I walked over to my closet and stopped as I caught a glimpse of myself in the huge mirror I had hung on the closet door.

            My bright blue eyes looked tired and wore out, as dark circles were beginning to form underneath them. My eyeliner was smudged, more on the right side of my face than the left, and my face looked pale and sick. The pink halter top I was wearing, went great with the tiny black skirt I had on, but it made me sick to look at them as I tore the clothes off my tiny body.

I turned around so I could look at my back, which had a large purple bruise towards the center of my back, but a little more to the left, which had been caused by being slammed into a dresser again and again. Tears stung the corners of my eyes as I thought about my eventful afternoon.

I tried to hide it as I heard the door open. “Hey Jayla,” she said as she walked in and sat on my small twin sized bed. “Hey,” I said wiping my eyes, and grabbing a towel off my floor. “How’d it go?” she asked. I shrugged my shoulders. “It was painful. But I made a lot of that guy,” I said pulling the money out of the coat on the floor. “I guess he likes them young.”

“Well, I’m glad you’re ok. I’ll be in the other room if you need me,” she said, getting up and walking back out.

I took another look at myself in the mirror, disgusted at what I had become, but afraid to return to the life I used to know. I ran my fingers through my hair, and walked slowly to the bathroom, wishing I could just disappear.
