Chapter 9

 Once Travis and I stride back inside, it was astonishing to see Jesse already in bed. I was kind of puzzled about it, but seeing him outside the sliding doors, staring at me in Travis’s arms with those gloomy hazel eyes earlier, I could understand why. I walked back into his room as Travis just went right past me into the living room. I stood the doorway as I saw him look up from the ground.

“What do you want?” Jesse mumbled into his pillow.

“Isn’t it kind of early for you to be going to bed now?” I asked.

“Well, gee sorry I’m exhausted. Can’t a guy just get some sleep when he wants to?” he sneered.

“Jesse, are you jealous?” I questioned, just to get his attention. I paced over to his bed, and sat on the edge.

“”What are you talking about jealous?”

“Don’t play dumb. I saw you looking out and Travis and me outside. You looked hurt.” I retorted.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He replied.

“Are you sure?” I recurred.

“Kay, just go ok? I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve been driving practically all day and night. I don’t want start yelling at you just because I’m grouchy.” Jesse grinned.

I just smirked. I knew he was lying, but I knew he was driving all day and almost all night, but that never stopped him before. I half laughed to myself. I inched closer to him and got right in his face, which startled him.

“I’m not going to leave you alone until you tell me. I’ll tickle it out of you.” I giggled.

“Oh yeah?” Jesse said.

Just when I was about charge after him, he pinned me down and we got into a tickle fight. Of course, Jesse wasn’t ticklish one bit. I couldn’t help but crack up laughing.

“Jesse stop!” I spat out, laughing my head off.

I could tell that Jesse was having a great time tickling the heck out of me, but I couldn’t do anything to stop him. He knew all my weaknesses.

“What the hell are you doing?” Tanner yelled from the door. I jumped as Jesse got off of me quickly. I knew Tanner had the wrong idea but really there was no way to explain it. He’s really not into explanations.

“Tanner, I can explain.” I replied to his angered voice.

“There is nothing to explain. I saw him and there is nothing else you need to say.” Tanner retorted.

Jesse’s eyes widened. Tanner took off after him and shoved up against the wall.

“Tanner! Let him go!” I screamed, but he didn’t listen.

I kept wondering where Travis was that he didn’t come after my shrilling scream. Tanner had his hands grasped around Jesse’s throat. Jesse grabbed his hands, trying to pry them off of him. It made me feel horrible since I didn’t do anything about it right away. Seeing the pain in Jesse’s eyes made me feel like a terrible person. All I would do was be a distraction. I would get anywhere as strong as Tanner was. I wasn’t sure what to do, but yell at the top of my lungs, hoping that Travis would come running in there as fast as he could, hoping it wasn’t already too late for Jesse.
