Chapter 7

Once Jesse took the room key down to the front desk, we each carried our own bags out to the car, even Tanner. I was actually surprised he did. We head out for the car and put the bags in the trunk. I noticed Jesse and Travis arguing about something as me and Tanner closed the trunk after putting the other bags in the trunk.

“Jesse, I’ll drive. You drove all day and night yesterday,” Travis insisted, as they walked back up to the front of the car.

“No it’s fine, I can drive. We only have a couple hundred miles till we get to Vegas.” Jesse replied.

“No, you’re probably tired as heck. Just sit in the back and get some rest bro, ok?”

As Travis got in the driver’s side of the deep blue Honda, Jesse got in the back seat.

“Why don’t you sit up front this time, Tanner?” I recommended. “It’s a lot more comfortable.”

He bobbed his head. “Ok.”

We swiftly walked over to the door of the Accord and got in. Jesse looked kind of pissed, but he and Travis always act like that, after they don’t get their way. I kind of snickered to myself, without anyone noticing.

Travis started up the vehicle, slowly pulls out of the space and out of the parking lot. Every so I often, I’d glance over at Jesse, biting his fingernail while looking out the window. That’s when it reminded me about earlier this morning, when he said that he was thinking about me. If that meant, a protecting friend, or more than friend’s kind of thing, I don’t know. He gradually turned his head to me and caught me staring at me and smiles.

Wow, I thought to myself. I never noticed sweet his smiles were. Whoa! What am I saying? Jesse’s my best friend. I smiled back. And something about that, made me think about Travis too. Yeah, he’s more of a clown, but when I reminisced back to when we were kids, he wasn’t like that; it was Jesse, so people change. They were always mean to me, but I always liked that for some reason and I never really understood that.

I know when I was younger, I had some strong feelings for both of them, but then I didn’t know the real meaning of ‘love.’

A couple hours later, we were stuck in traffic in the middle of Denver, Colorado; we all got bored to death. That’s when I felt my cell phone vibrating on my lap. I don’t really remembering to put it on vibrate, but I must have. I glimpsed over beside me, observing that Jesse was the one texting me this time. I flipped my phone open and view the message that read:

Do you mind if we text back and fourth? I really need to ask you something.

(Jesse’s in bold and Kay’s in italic)I smiled and half nodded.

What do you want to talk about? I stare out at the traffic until he replied. The cars were going no where. I hate sitting in traffic this long.

Kay, when I said I was thinking about you earlier, you know I only meant that because we are friends and friends normally think about each other, right?

I wasn’t really sure where he was going with this, but I agreed. I’ll admit, I’d think of Jesse and Travis here in there, probably more than Tanner half the time. I don’t think that’s a good thing though, considering that Tanner’s my boyfriend.

I understand what ya mean.

Jesse closed his phone up and gave me a thumbs up. I slightly chuckled. I saw Travis looking back at us, but I wasn’t really sure what he was thinking.
