Chapter 24

"Rose, Rose can you hear me?" a voice yells out to me.

I look around my surroundings. It was dark all around me. All I could see was pitch black. I tried waving my hand in front of my face. Nothing.

"Rose, follow the light," the voice says again.

I glance around again. This time, I see the only bright light right before my eyes. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I did as this person told me to. Slowly, I get up off the cold ground and walk carefully over to the light. To me, it looks like it keeps getting farther and farther away every time I make another step.

"Ok, you can stop playing tricks on me now." I shout, but all I heard was my own voice echoing those same exact words.

It was very creepy. All of a sudden, I feel a hand on my shoulder and I scream at the top of my lungs. The shrilling noise of my screech sounds awful as it rings loudly through my ears.

"Rose, relax it's just me." the male voice tells me while spinning my around to see him, trying to calm me down. Some kind of light was shining down on him so it seems like he was glowing. Of course, he was a ghost after all.

"Caleb? Where am I? I'm dead am I?" I question, hoping every bit that I wasn't.

"No, no, no darling. You aren't dead, I promise." he replies.

Suddenly, memories flood back into my mind.

"Why haven't you told me that you were my biological father." I ask.

He's face went pale, even more so since he's a ghost. "It was for your own good. Your mother wanted to do the same for you too."

"And how come I can see you, and not her? I mean, if she is my mother, I'd like to know what she at least looks like, right? After all these years, I've been lied to. I can't believe it. I wish I was dead right now." I retort.

Out of no where, I see bright lights shine in my eyes, like headlights. It scared the shit out of me as it looks like it gets closer. I turn away and fall to the ground.

"Rose, Rose!!" A different voices hollers at me now.

I try to force my eyes open. They won't budge.

"Rose, please give me some sign that you can hear me." It says again.

I toss my head back and fourth yelling 'no.'

"Rose," a familiar voice pouts. "Doctor, doctor come quick!"

I open my eyes. Jason; oh so sweet Jason.

"Jason," I whisper. He rushes to my side to hold my hand. "Where am I? How long have I been here? Am I dead, yet?"

Jason let out a small chuckle. "No, you aren't dead. You're at the hospital. You've been here for over eight hours. Honestly, I have no idea. When you were on the phone with me and you screamed, I knew something was wrong from the start, so I called 911 right away. I'm just so glad you are all right." he explains.

I look at him awkwardly. I'm not dead? I try to push myself up so I was sitting up, but pain shot through me.

"Ow!" I yell. "Man, I feel like I've been stabbed in the ribs fifty times or something. God, that hurts like a bitch."

"The doctor said that you have two cracked ribs, a broken wrist, and your shoulder blade was dislocated and way out of whack. He said you were in mild condition, but you looked awful when they brought you in."

I hesitate, thinking of all the things he said. I'm really in bad shape. "How did the ambulance know where to find me?"

"There was another call about the wreck. The description of you and the car was definitely you. I couldn't have lost you Rose. Right now, I would... I would have been lost myself. I would have dead without you."

I was speechless. That was one of the nicest things he's said to me. I smile as the doctor came in.
