Chapter 5 For about an hour of going across the state of Missouri, it was silent. The only noise the whole drive was the radio playing, “Stop and Stare” by One Republic. It was a good song, but I hear it so much it’ll soon get annoying. I hear someone snoring suddenly start snoring in the backseat. Jesse and I looked back at the same time. Travis, I should have known. I let out a small chuckle. Tanner was asleep too. “It’s weird to seem them both sleeping in the back seat like that,” Jesse smirked. “Yeah and Travis’s snoring is really getting on my nerves.” I groaned. We laughed, as a silent pause came by. “Kay can I ask you something, but please don’t get mad at me all right?” he said. “I promise, just tell me. It’s about Tanner isn’t it?” I whispered. “Yeah, why are you still with him after all these years? You’ve been with him since you were a junior. I would have thought that he would have found another girl by now just like all other guys do.” “Well, he’s not like any other guy. Just like you and him are different.” I replied. “Don’t ever compare me to him.” Jesse stated. “Ok, fine I won’t then.” I promised. He hesitated. “Kay, I just don’t want you to get hurt. Travis and I have always looked out for you, but I think Tanner is hiding something from you.” “Jesse, it’s ok. You don’t need to baby me. I’m not a little girl anymore. You may be two years older than me, but I can take care of myself.” I let him know. He grinned. Jesse’s worried look on his face made me wonder if he was too protective for me. He’s always been there for me. Travis too, but I must say it was a lot more than what Tanner’s done for me. *** “We’re here guys,” Jesse announced, pulling into a parking lot; it was empty except for two cars that were parked a few spaces down. We were at a hotel. I must’ve been sleeping for at least an hour or two, because I had no idea where we were at. “What time is it?” Travis asked, swiping his hand over his eyes. “It’s almost mid-night and we have to get up early in the morning so we can get on the road before rush hour hits.” He explained. Jesse gets out of the car, quickly going to the back of the car and grabs our bags that we need out of the trunk. I stretch my arms above my head and tap on Tanner’s shoulder. He had his head resting on the window with his arms crossed over his chest. “Tanner, wake up!” I whispered, shaking his left arm, as Travis forced himself out of the car to go help Jesse with the bags. Tanner didn’t wake up at first so I shook him again and he slowly opened his eyes. “I don’t know exactly where we are at, but we’re at a hotel. We’ll be sleeping her for the night, but we have to get up early in the morning.” I told him. “Oh,” he said, looking out the window. I did too, noticing Jesse going inside the hotel, which later found out was called the Embassy Suites, by looking at the sign. Wow, high class. I thought. Never expected to be staying here for one night, but then again, Jesse and Travis could afford it more than I could. Their dad is the manger at some car dealer so he comes home with loads of money everyday. They don’t really socialize with him anymore though, I’m not really sure why though. Tanner opens the back door and gets out, slamming it harder than he should have. I get out too, but didn’t really slam it. “I’m going to see if Jesse needs any help with anything. Just help Travis bring in the bags. We’ll probably be in the lobby.” Tanner insisted, smiling. I slightly smiled, but wasn’t at all happy that he left me and Travis take in the bags. He should have at least taken his in. He kissed me on the cheek lightly and turned around, running inside to catch up with Jesse. I looked down at the ground, mellow. “He’s nothing but a loser, Kay. I hate saying that in front of you, but it’s the truth.” Travis beamed. I didn’t saying anything, just took my bag and Tanner’s and sung them over my shoulder. Travis closed the trunk and must’ve locked it, because beeped, but I didn’t know he had the keys. Once we got inside, it was amazing, but too bad it was for only one night. The office was like any normal office in a hotel, but there was an indoor pool that was bigger than a normal size for an in ground pool. There was a dining area with a tiny bar connected to it. It was nice. Plus, they had glass elevators so you could see right through them. Neat, but looked scary at first. “We only have one room for the four of us on the third floor. So I assume that you and Tanner don’t have a problem sleeping together,” Jesse inquired me, handing me one of the room keys. They must’ve given him two room keys, so I had one and so did Jesse. “I guess not.” I retorted, as I started walking up the steps to the third floor. Nobody followed me till I was half way there. I went down the long, fancy corridor, to find our room, 3490. A large light lit up my surroundings outside the door to our room. I used the room key to open the door. I didn’t bother to look around to see how nice the place was or turn on any light when I walked in, but I knew it was big. I simply threw the bags on the floor and crashed on the nearest bed. I was really tired I didn’t worry about taking off my flip-flops. I closed my eyes and fell asleep in a matter of two minutes or more. It didn’t seem that long, but I did hear the guys walk in and turn on the light. “Turn it off!” I mumbled into the pillow, but they didn’t understand what I said. “What?” Tanner questioned. “She wants the light off idiot.” Travis snapped. They turned the lights off again. I felt Tanner crawling on the bed lying next to me, kissing me on the cheek again. “Good night,” he said. “Yeah, yeah night,” I answered back, not caring. Like that, I fell back asleep in no time at all. © 2008 by xHickChick789x [KNG]
“Where are we?” he questioned.
