Chapter 15
"What are you smiling about?" I ask Jason.
He didn't respond very quickly. He looks like he's lost in a daze, as he still had his arms around me.
"I don't know what it is, but right now, you look truly amazing. And I'm serious about that. I don't say that too often." Jason replies.
"Are you for real? I don't think I'm amazing at all." I state.
"But you are," he says, cupping my one hand with both of his. "Rose, there is only one you. Every girl is different. They aren't as honest, or as kind, or as beautiful as you are... and that's a fact."
I could say anything because his kind words caught me off guard. It's a shocker to me that he was already saying this.
"I don't know how else I could say this can say this, so I'm just going to come right out and say it." Jason starts, but I knew what he was going to say and for some reason, I didn't want to hear him say it. "I love you Rose, deeply and madly. I know that sounds a little gushy gushy, but it's true. Kendra probably already told you that, but I don't care. I want you to know that I said it, face to face."
I sigh, softly and gaze down at the ground with a sad look. I do like Jason, but I don't know if I would consider it love quite yet.
"What's wrong?" Jason questions, putting his right hand on my cheek, but I didn't respond. "Rose, what did I say that is making you ignore me?"
"Nothing Jason." I mumble.
"Then why are you acting like this. I thought you liked me back." he responds.
"That's it. I like you, not love you. I mean not yet anyway. I don't want to go way over our heads and start making out." I sneer, even though I knew that Jason wasn't the guy to do that, but this whole love thing just seems to be overcoming me, like I can't control it.
"Oh," Jason sighs, then looks away from me for a brief moment.
"Jason, I don't know why I didn't say it sooner, but something in mind was shouting at me, telling me that I should slow down a bit. Don't get me wrong, I do like you, it's just not what I call love yet." I grin, looking straight at Jason and then he looks back at me. I just hope he'll understand.
"That's fine, we'll take things slower." Jason tells me. I knew by the look on his face that he wanted me more than just the "like." Everytime he looks at me, he appears to be hurt and it hurts me.
"JASON!" a voice shouts from up on the hill, back in the building where we met up with Kendra and Kyle.
"I guess we better go," I said.
"Yeah, that sounds like Kendra." he replies.
We left the horse, Penny out in the pasture where she was left and we climb over the wooden fence again, which I trip over and land on my face. How embarrassing.
"Rose, are you all right?" Jason asks, as he helps me off the ground by giving me a hand.
"Yeah just fine, thank you. Let's go." I stammer.
**********
"Kendra, what do you want now?" Jason questions as we got up to the hill.
"They're getting ready to show the heifers. Kyle's already waiting for you in the back lot." Kendra replies.
"Alright." He says and then turns to me. "I'll be back soon." he tells me, then gives me a peck on the cheek and sprints off. I jump as my eyes widened in surprisement. I felt my face getting red as a tomato aa I saw Kendra's jaw drop.
"Did he just do what I think he just did?" she questions with a shocking grin.
"Yeah, and I told him I wanted to take things slow." I pause.
"Well that' because he's stubborn. He won't take no for an answer. That's part of his nature." Kendra explains, as I slightly roll my eyes, but she doesn't notice. "Why don't we sit down and watch them do the showing. We can sit over on those small set of bleechers and we can just talk."
I nod my head. "Ok," I agreed and we walk over to the rinky dink sets of bleechers and sit on the first bench, getting ready for the show to start. There wasn't a whole lot of people on the benches. They were probably only family members watching there kids or parents show the cows.
About a minute or two later, I saw Jason with a heifer, which I believe was a Brown Swiss. I notice him wink at me and I just smile. Jason, you seem so bull-headed. You'll do what you can to get what you want, or you'll die trying. Alright! Fine! Maybe we don't need to go too slow, but I don't want to go way too fast and we start doing things I'd regret. I don't know, I really have to think about this.
