Chapter 9
“Hey Mom have you seen my diary anywhere?” I shout to her from in the kitchen as she was sitting on the couch cuddled next to Dad. Eww…
“I haven’t seen it anywhere dear. Did you have it in your room?” she questions me.
“I did, but I was outside and I left it there once the phone rang. I can’t find it anywhere.” I reply.
I decide not to even bother going back outside to look for it, but I checked around the kitchen since that’s where I was talking to Kendra on the phone. No luck. So I settle on going downstairs to my room and watch TV. I plop down on my stomach onto my purple puffy bed. I take a hold of the remote that I had lying on the floor. I turn the TV on with it. Once the screen came on, it brightens the whole room and Saved by the Bell was on. I always use to watch it, but normally I’m so busy and get caught up in other things.
After about an hour later, as soon as I looked at the clock that read 8:32, I saw lightning flash outside. Not even a second later and I heard a loud bang of thunder, which shook the entire house. It startled me at first and then I began to panic a bit when the lights went out. I didn’t scream nor shriek. All I did was sigh and try to fall asleep.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
In the morning, I have dried saliva on my face, my hair looks like a rats nest, and I had bags under my eyes, so I figure on getting a shower to freshen up. As I was changing it to my clothes that I randomly picked out, I notice I was wearing a blue shirt I remember getting from Journey’s, a pair of dark skinny jeans, and I also let my hair flow into soft, big curls, which made it look more wavy than curly. I took my red polka-dot Mary Jane’s from under my bed, and slip them on. I grab my Hollister bag from in the corner of my room a swung it over my shoulder. I rush upstairs and saw my mom, dad and my younger brother, Caleb, sitting at the table eating scrambled eggs and bacon.
I also notice that once I got up the stairs, my parents stop talking. I didn’t know what they were saying though.
“Hi sissy!” Caleb exclaims, smiling.
“Hey cutie,” I reply, walking over to him and giving him a kiss on the top of the head.
I went to the kitchen counter and took a banana out of the small basket full of fruit. I peel it down and began to munch down on it. I just remembered that I didn’t eat supper last night. Once I was done, I try to hurry out the door, but my mom had to stop me with a conversation.
“In a hurry?” she questions.
“Not really, I just don’t want to be late for school. Ok I really have to go now. See ya later.”
I ran to the front door and open it, but I heard my parents whispering again. I try not to be nosey sometimes, but I just do it anyways.
“Ryan, we need to tell her.” My Mom said.
“About what?” My Dad replies.
“You know what I’m talking about.” She sneers.
“Why do we need to tell her?” he asks.
“Because, when she’s older, she probably won’t take it as easy.”
A long silence crossed the kitchen. I had no idea what they were talking about. I was about to go back in and ask them, but I heard someone shouting my name.
“Hey Rose!” they shout.
I look out onto the street and see Jason smiling back at me. I close the front door and say “hi” back.
“I believe that there is something you want to tell me.” he said. Honestly, I didn’t know what he meant.
“You mean like my parents are keeping a secret from me and they are the only ones that know about it? Is that what you’re talking about?” I respond.
“Well no, I was just wondering, umm…” he starts and looks down at the ground, as if the words were there that he possibly couldn’t think of. “Do you have any feelings for me?”
I look at him, wide eyed and grinning. Did Kendra tell him? Or was he on the other line listening in? Maybe Kendra knew the whole time. He was probably sitting next to her, listening to every word I said. Oh God I hope not.
