Chapter 23
Cindy stood at the front entrance for the longest time. I know she had to see us, but I wasn’t sure why she didn’t come over to say something. Caleb saw here walk out the door as someone came out with our pizza. I was hungry, so I grab a slice of hot pizza off the pan, nearly burning my fingers.
“Karrie?” Caleb said, looking at me strange as I inhale slice of pizza into my mouth.
“Sorry, I’m just so starving. I barely ate anything today.” I laugh.
He just chuckled and went back to eating.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
After we ate, we decided to go for a walk down through the park. The later it got, the darker it got and it was getting kind of creepy out here. I never really liked it here at night. I always heard bad things happen here at night, but I try to ignore that.
As we were walking down a golden pathway, through a wall full of trees, I look up above me a gaze at the stars.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” Caleb smiles.
“It’s amazing. I’ve never actually noticed it before. I guess it’s just because I’m with you.” I reply.
He laughs. “Yeah, I haven’t really noticed it that much before either.”
As we come to a stop, Caleb and I run up to a hill so we could lie down and stare up at the stars. We sat down next to each other. It was even better out in the open. At home, I could see as many stars as I see right now. It was like a blanket, surrounding the two of us.
Caleb wraps his one arm around me and pulls me close to him. It feels like I was in a dream or some fairytale. I smile as I lie there in the grass, pressed up against his warm body. It made me smile more.
My eye lids grew heavy and I was just about asleep until I heard leaves crunching. I jerk and jump looking in every direction, hoping no one was stalking us, like Cindy.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Caleb asks, worriedly.
“Did you hear something?” I question.
“Only the sound of you right now.” He replies.
I shake my head, as I my left hand up to it. I must be hearing things. Then I heard it again, as they get closer and closer, I start to see a
shadow.
“Caleb,” I whispered, pointing over to the shadow.
“Run,” he replies back.
“What?” I said. I was in no mood to run. I was so tired I’d probably keel over. Caleb helped me up off the ground and we started running and running. It scared the shit out of me that’s for sure. I knew it was no animal, but the odd thing was, it was a man’s built body for sure, but I couldn’t tell who it was.
Then it hit me. Maybe Dylan’s on Cindy’s side, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to stay as far away from him and Cindy, as well as who ever else is involved in this whole thing.
(Authors Note: Sorry if it was shorter than the rest, but thanks 4 reading.)
