Chapter 4

I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. I turned around. Dylan’s grey eyes fall into my brown ones.

“Hey!” I said, hugging him and giving a long passionate kiss on the lips.

He pulled away slowly, still looking into my eyes. “I was hoping you’d come.” He replies.

I smiled. “So, how long have you been here?” I inquired.

“Oh about twenty minutes or so; give or take.” He answered.

Before I could get out another word, Brittany took my hand and told me that she wanted to grab a drink and some snacks. I left Dylan and told him I’d see him later.

(Brittany is the wild one between Melody, her, and I. She talks way too much and does anything she can to eat. She’s pretty funny overall.)

“Grab a few chips; it’s free!” She stated.

“I know; I’ll get some. Hold your horse feathers would ya?” I laughed.

As I leaned over the table to grab a hand full of chips, I felt someone staring right through me as if I was invisible. I look in front of me across the table and saw him. I knew it was him. I knew that smile anywhere, except that his hair was lighter now. It looked like a darker shade of blonde to me. And when I looked at his eyes, they looked more hazel than blue, like I had remembered.

“Caleb? Is that really you?” I questioned, as I waited to say once Brittany went to go find Melody.

“So I hear you’re dating Dylan.” He said.

“Yeah, how’d you know?” I ask.

“Word gets around in a small school,” he retorted.

“Yeah, it’ll be two years in a couple months.” I said. Once I said that I knew I shouldn’t have told him, because two years ago was when I left public school, just to be home schooled, which was also the year that Caleb wouldn’t talk to me.

“Oh, well congratulations then,” he smiles. I knew he wasn’t by the tone of his voice.

“So, did you ever, ever have another girlfriend after I left?” I ask, as I bit my bottom lip, hoping he would say no for some reason. He looked down at the ground for the longest time.

Then he spoke.

“No,” he said, plain and simple. I noticed his eyes were a bit watery, as the light glistened in them once he looked up and in the other way from me. I didn’t mean to make him sad, but I just wanted to know.

“Hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to-” I stopped as Caleb spoke.

“It’s ok, you don’t have to be sorry.” He replied,

“It was nice seeing you again.”
