Chapter 2

The late bell had rung and everyone was in homeroom. About 20 seconds later, the announcements came on. I didn’t bother to listen because I had too much on my mind. I mean, Caleb actually liking me, following me liking him? I thought it was crazy, but it was the truth.

After the announcements and the pledge of allegiance, Cindy wanted to know why I was acting all crazy and cheerful. Everyone had to go in line to go down to the gym for bombardment. I told her exactly what happened, but she didn’t seem happy for me. All she said was “eww,” loud enough so everyone was staring at her and I.

“What’s your problem? He’s gross. I mean he picks his nose for God’s sake!” she said.

“He does not!” I shouted back at her.

“Well, let me tell you this then; Caleb was going out with Elizabeth Hoity for the past eight weeks and she broke up with him. He’s only trying to get her jealous,” she explained. I wasn’t sure if I should believe her or not. “So, what do you think about that?”

I didn’t respond back I was still speechless by what she just said. What if she is right? I wouldn’t stand being with him if that’s all he wanted to do. The class walked in a sloppy line and stopped and stood against the lockers.

“So what are you going to tell him? Or do you want me to tell him for you?” Cindy replied. I didn’t know what to say. Caleb was only a few kids ahead of me. I looked over at him. He looked back me too and we both smiled at each other, and it just made me melt with his amazing blue eyes.

“You know he picks his nose,” Cindy blurts out at me. I jerk my head away from Caleb.

“What?” I said.

“You heard me and I’ve seen him do it many times.” She stated.

I wasn’t sure if I should believe her or not, but I never seen him pick his nose in public. Besides, even if it is a little gross, I still have feelings for him.

“Cindy, I don’t know what to say to him. I don’t know if I even want to be his girlfriend. It’s all coming so sudden for me.” I replied.

I can tell that Cindy didn’t like my response. By the she was staring at me, she looked like she was quite mad.

“Hey Caleb,” she shouted, as I stood there right beside her, hoping she wasn’t going to say something stupid. “Karrie doesn’t want to go out with you. She thinks you’re weird.”

My jaw dropped and Caleb looks at me, confused. I couldn’t say anything. I was left speechless. He shrugged his shoulders.

Later on in heath class, I sat next to Caleb. He looked over at me. I was afraid to say anything at first, but as I opened my mouth, Caleb spoke up.

I could feel myself getting uncomfortable about our conversation. I could feel my face getting red and sweaty. I wanted to tell him the truth, but something was making me hold it back.

“I don’t know my mind changes a lot. I don’t know what else to say, but sorry.”

I could tell by the look in his piercing blue eyes, (which looked a bit grey now); he was looking a little teary-eyed and he would take my answer.

“Hey that’s fine, I accept the apology, but you don’t need to. I understand completely.” He replied, but I knew that I really hurt him inside and it hurt me inside as well.

That year, we were like best friends again, but once we hit 7^th grade, we never really talked to each other. Occasionally, we say a few things here and there, but not very much. Once I started being home schooled, I never seen him since the last day of 7^th and the first day of my summer vacation.

Well, I better get to bed. I’ve got a big party I’m going to tomorrow night with my bestie, Melody and a bunch of high school kids.
