Will is a boy with weak electric based attacks. One day, at school, the town is attacked by a giant salamander. Will attempts to fight it, but his attacks aren't strong enough. He meets a kid named Erik, who has electric based powers of another sort; he can turn himself and others into electricity, and travel across conductors. The 2 of them team up against the Salamander. At first, their attempts are futile. However, a voice named 'Ozad' sounds in Will's head and instructs him. He teaches him to generate balls of electricity and summon lightning bolts. He uses these new abilities and Erik's help to defeat the Salamander.
After the Salamander is dead, Erik and Will are surrounded at police officers. Ozad tells will that it's the GHA, or Geneton Hunting Society. Will asks what a Geneton is, and Ozad explains that they are people with special sequences of DNA. These sequences grant the people different kinds of powers; In Erik's and Will's case, electric based. The police imprison Will and Erik, but with Ozad's help, they escape. Ozad instructs them to leave town, but Will refuses to leave without saying good bye to his family. Ozad advises against this, claiming that the visit will cause Will nothing but grief.
When Will returns home, he finds that the GHA has killed his family so that no one would question his absence. Will is depressed and pissed. He transforms into a black, evil creature and teleports to the edge of the city of Tucson. He lights the city on fire, and then goes and destroys the prison he and Erik were held in. A flickering image of a man appears, and says he is Ozad. Ozad creates a necklace, and uses is it to turn the black creature, shadow, into Will. Ozad then teleports Will back to Tucson next to Erik. They notice the fire, and go to save Will's best friend, Lauren. They flee the city and head for Phoenix.
On the way to Phoenix, Will, Erik and Lauren come across a green stone known as the Omni Topaz. Ozad explains that it is one of 7, and that they must all be collected in order to save the universe. While they admire the stone, they are confronted by the military of the GHA. They brace themselves for death, but something from above attacks the army. Will and his friends take the opportunity to slip away.
Will and his friends get to Phoenix and sleep at his Grandfather's house. When they wake up, they find that over night, the GHA had completely surrounded the city with massive walls. Will and Erik get a call from the general of the GHA, and he tells them that they must surrender themselves, or the walls will never come down. Will's grandfather leads the kids down to the sewers, where they meet a colony of Genetons of all breeds. The 4 of them warn the Genetons of the walls, and then they all go to sleep and prepare to demolish the walls. During the night, Will is attacked by a man named Dazo, Ozad's evil brother. Ozad goes to Erik's head and teaches him a new attack. Erik runs into Will's room, turns into a spark, and attacks Dazo. Will takes the opportunity to generate 2 balls of electricity and smash them into Dazo's chest. Dazo does not die, but he vanishes after saying he'll be back.
The next day, Will and the others go out to attack the walls. All of the Genetons can do nothing to them. Ozad teaches Will to tap into the Omni Topaz's power, and Will enters a sort of 'Super Form'. He uses his new found power to destroy the walls. After falling out of his super form, Will loses his memories and passes out. After he is awoken, he has to remeet Erik, Lauren, and Ozad and relearn his powers. Ozad tells them they have to go to Canada, where the Omni Topaz of Memory resides. Will, Erik, and Lauren head for Canada, and meet up with Kayla, a friend of Will and a fire powered Geneton. He is able to remember her, seeing as he knew her longer than both Lauren and Erik. A few days later, the GHA attacks them. It turns out Lauren is a part of the GHA, and had given away their position. Will gets pissed, but does not turn into Shadow. Instead, his eyes glow a dark shade of silver and the air around him seems to writh in torture. Will kills Lauren and all the GHA police officers. He then retrieves the red Omni Topaz and regains his memories. He, Erik, and Kayla steal Kayla's parent's car and head for Florida. Ozad says they need to get to the Space Center, get a ship, and go to another planet to get the Topaz of power.
After driving for about a day, Will, Kayla and Erik meet 3 Genetons; Taylor, Tyler and Serenity. Taylor and Tyler are Drilloids, meaning they can dig through anything. Serenity is a scentoid, meaning she can change the smell of the air around her. The 6 of them, Even Serenity, fight a giant T-Rex that was created by the GHA. The 6 of them drive off, and are later attacked by a giant Ferret, also genetically engineered by the GHA. It absorbs their powers, and kills all of them accept Will. Will once again becomes the thing he became when Lauren betrayed him. He supposedly kills the Ferret and revives his friends. He then passes out along with the others.
When they wake up, they find they were taken to Florida by a girl named Jane and her Family. Will and Jane fall in love, but are unable to tell each other because the city is being attacked by Dazo. Will and Erik activate the power of the 2 Topazes they have and fight Dazo. Dazo flees, and the boys fall out of Super Form. They then return to Jane's time share, where she is beaten up by her father. She tells them she can't come with them, and then they leave for the Space Center. A few hours later, Jane sneaks out and goes after them. She makes it just in time, and joins the 6 friends. They take off and go to a distant planet.
Shortly after landing, the kids are attacked by the giant Ferret, which some how survived. It has gained some new powers, but the kids are able to defeat it. Afterwards, they find the Topaz and return to Earth. They return to Phoenix and get 7 tickets to Nubia, where the Topaz of Knowledge is. Will's grandfather gives him the Topaz of Conscience before he leaves. While they are flying, they are, once again, attacked by the Ferret. It doesn't want to give up, apparently, It has gained the abilities to fly and temporarily pause time. Will and Erik activate their super forms again, save the people on the plane, and bring the Ferret into space and its head explodes. They return to the surface of the planet and find that no one was hurt, but the plane was destroyed. Ozad teaches Will to use his powers so he can fly, and he carries Jane across the ocean. Erik turns himself and the other 4 into Sparks, and they fly along next to Will.
For the moment, Will is holding the Red Topaz of Memory. Jane carries the Blue Topaz of Power, and Kayla holds the Green Topaz, the Topaz of Life. Erik holds the Silver Topaz of Conscience. The kids agree to let Taylor hold the Orange Topaz of Knowledge when they find it, Tyler to hold the Yellow Topaz of Emotion, and Serenity to hold the Black Topaz of Sin once they find them. That is where we are now.
