Planet Mech [23] Labrynth

Science Created on 4-13-08 Views(39) Story Rating G

The beast chased me down every corridor of the Labrynth.  My legs had gotten tired, so I had been hovering most of the way.  "Man, sooner or later I'm gonna come across a dead end!"  I muttered to myself.  I looked behind me, and saw that the beast was gaining on me!  "HOW DO I KEEP GETTING INTO THESE MESSES?!?"  I shouted at the top of my lungs, looking forward.  I kept dropping landmines, but nothing seemed to stop this monster.

You know, maybe I shouldn't have said anything about dead ends.  "Ah shit, I'm screwed."  I said.  The beast had me cornered.  "C'mon, NOVA DODGE!!!"  I shouted, but nothing happened.  I tried a few more times, still nothing.  The monster slowly approached me, with hunger in its eyes.  It opened its mouth, ready to chomp down on me.  I shut my eyes and waited for the end.

Just then, I heard a huge explosion, and I felt slimy stuff cover my body.  I opened my eyes, and realized I was covered in monster guts.  A few yards away, I saw Kyle, holding a bazuka.  "Where'd you come from?"  I asked.  "Not sure."  He said, walking closer.  "How'd you blow that thing up?  None of my weapons were working."  I said.  "I told you, I'm a weapons specialist.  I know about these things."  Kyle replied.  "Whatever.  C'mon, we gotta find a way out of here."  I said.

"So, where are the other 2 morons?"  I asked, referring to Cody and Miles.  "They're somewhere over the Pacific Ocean."  Kyle answered.  "Yeah, they were practicing dog fights with computer driven ships."  "Did I ask what they were doing?"  I asked.  "No, I just assumed..."  "Don't make assumptions.  That'll get you killed." I warned.

After leading Kyle through the maze for about 30 minutes, he finally asked, "We're lost, aren't we?"  "No, I'm just not sure where we are.  Now shut up and keep walking."  I answered.  "Don't you think we should be marking where we've been or something?"  Kyle asked.  "What's the point?  Look behind you."  I said.  He did, and looked at me pale.  "The walls are moving."  He said.  "Exactly, which is why we're not marking where we've been."  I replied.

All of a sudden, we heard a snort.  "Get your bazuka out.  I hear another one of those things."  I demanded.  "I hear it, too."  He said, pulling out the bazuka.  We walked to the next turn, and looked both ways.  To our right was another beast.  "Fire!"  I shouted.  Kyle blasted the monster to bits.  "So, where do we go, now?  Left, or right?"  Kyle asked.  "Left."  I said.  "Why?"  Kyle asked me.  "Because, I'm trying to get to the center of the Labrynth.  Left leads towards the center."  I answered.  "Why would we wanna go to the center?"  Kyle asked.  "Don't question my methods."  I said.  "Well, I'm not moving until you tell me why we're heading to the center."  Kyle replied.  "Fine by me."  I answered, walking away.  "What if you come across another monster?"  Kyle asked.  I stopped in my tracks.

"Damn you and your logic."  I said.  "Why the center?"  Kyle asked again.  "Just a feeling.  Someone is telling me to go that way."  I said, referring to Ozad.  "I'm surprised you're taking orders from anybody."  Kyle said.  "I'm not following orders, I'm taking a suggestion."  I replied.  "That seems out of character, too."  Kyle said.  "Look, the person telling me to go to the center is far more powerful than you can possibly imagine.  It would be wise to take his advice."  I said, and walked off.  "Whatever."  Kyle said, catching up to me.

After a good 3 hours, we came across 2 doors, each one with a guard.  "Greetings, travelers."  They greeted us in unison.  "Master will be pleased you made it this far.  Pick a door."  One of them said.  "But first, you must solve our puzzle."  The other said.  "One of us---"  The first one began to say.  "Let me guess:  One of you always tells the truth, and the other always lies.  We get to ask one question.  One door leads to sudden death, the other takes us to where ever it is we're trying to go, correct?"  I asked.  "Well, uh, yes."  The second one answered, bewildered.  "This isn't a puzzle, it's a waste of 30 seconds."  I said, walking up to the first guard.  "Would he say that your door leads to whereever it is we're trying to go?"  I asked him.  "Yes."  He replied.

I shoved the other guard out of the way and walked through his door.  "C'mon, Kyle."  I beckoned from the other side.  "How do you know that's right?"  Kyle asked, cautiously stepping forward.  "It's the simplest riddle in the history of the Earth, now come on."  I said again, losing my patience.  "I couldn't figure it out."  Kyle replied.  "That's because you are a brainless idiot.  C'mon."  I beckoned a 3rd time.  He walked through the door way, and the door shut behind us.

"Do you see any sudden death?"  I asked.  "No."  He said.  "C'mon, the center's a straight run that direction."  I said, pointing ahead.  "I don't see anything."  Kyle replied.  "My goggles allow me to see far better than that head band of yours.  C'mon."  I beckoned, running forward.  "So, what are we gonna do when we get to where ever it is we're going?"  Kyle asked.  "Not sure."  I replied.

About half way to our destination, we started hearing someone moaning.  "Shouldn't we try to find and help whoever it is?"  Kyle asked.  "Leave them.  We have our own troubles to worry about."  I replied.  "We can't just let them die!"  Kyle exclaimed.  "Yes, we can.  Now let's go."  I commanded.  "No, I'm gonna go help them."  Kyle said, turning into another hallway.  "Whatever."  I said, and started walking forward again.  Just then, I heard a grunt.

I ran back to where Kyle was.  "So, finally had a change of heart?"  Kyle asked.  "No, I heard one of those monsters."  I replied.  "Awww, is wittu William scared?"  Kyle asked, mocking me.  I grabbed his neck and lifted him into the air.  "NEVER speak to me like that."  I shouted, my eyes practically on fire.  "Ok, ok, I'm sorry!"  he squeeled, desperate for air.  I dropped him to the ground.

He got up and socked me in the face.  "Oh no you didn't." I said.  I slammed him into the wall.  I managed to make a dent and a few cracks in the wall.  I grabbed him and threw him to the ground.  I stomped on his exposed stomach. "Pathetic."  I said, grabbing his bazuka and heading back to the main hall.  I left him moaning on the ground, grinning that I'd finally gotten that pest off my back.

When I got to the main hall, I saw the monster and blasted it to bits.  I continued towards the center of the labrynth.  After half an hour, I saw a black tower.  It was small at first, but it grew with every step I took. I soon was able to make out windows and a black flag.  I stopped right in front of the structure, which now towered over me as if I were an ant.  I knocked, and the door slowly opened inward by itself.  I walked inside, and the doors instantly shut.  It was pitch black inside.  I turned on the flash lights in my goggles on, illuminating most of the room.  It was much larger on the inside than I expected.  I was pretty sure I could fit my cottage in the foyer alone!  I heard someone giggling.

This wasn't a friendly giggling, it was more meniacle.  I turned to face the sound.  On the opposite end of the room, someone was sitting in a chair facing away from me.  The chair turned to face me, and I saw that the person was Vinthrol!  He looked a bit different; His hair was crazier, his eyes glowed yellow, his teeth were like razors, and his fingers were long and pointed.  "Well well well, isn't this a rather unpleasent surprise?" Vinthrol asked.  "Take him."  He commanded seemingly nobody.

Suddenly, 4 skeletons appeared out of nowhere.  I tried blasting them, but they were too strong!  I ran for the door, but it was locked.  I pounded on it as hard as I could, but it wouldn't open.  One of them clonked me on the head, and everything went black...

When I woke up, my hands and feet were chained to a wall.  I couldn't see anything clearly.  "What's wrong with my eyes?"  I asked.  There was just enough slack in the chains for me to feel my eyes and realize that my goggles were gone.  My mech was gone also; I was in nothing but a t-shirt and jeans.  I felt weak without it on.  I could barely support my own weight.  I probably would have fallen to the floor, had it not been for the chains.  I couldn't even struggle I was so weak.  Mechs were the only thing that kept humans strong.  Without our mechs, we have about as much fighting potential as a bowl of yogurt.  We can't even see or think correctly without them.  I looked at my fingers.  The rings were still there.  I sighed with relief, even though they were completely powerless here.

Vinthrol walked into the room.  "V-v-v-vinthrol.  W-what happened t-t-to you?"  I asked, stammering.  "Do you recall the day Lauren died?" Vinthrol asked.  The memory was fuzzy, but still there.  "yes."  I answered.  "And do you recall what happened shortly afterwards?"  Vinthrol asked.  "No."  I answered.  "Didn't think so.  Here's what happened:  You were so filled with rage that you used the rings to unleash every evil aspect of yourself on me.  You unleashed and became a being known as 'Shadow'."  he explained.  "W-w-w-what's that got-t-t to do with a-anything?"  I asked.  "Simple.  You temperarily weakened the rings.  That unleashed not only Shadow, but also the remaining bits of MY power that was still cieled from me.  The power that I received turned me into what I am now."  Vinthrol explained, grinning evily.  "I thank you, because now I am far more powerful than before."  Vinthrol said.

Vinthrol punched me a few times, laughed, and then left the room.  I heard the door click.  I was trapped.
