Planet Mech [21] Invasion (continued)
|
"Room 42? That's on the opposite end of the ship! I'll never make it! Unless... Unless I can tap into the ring's energy WITHOUT taking it off of the console. But the only way I can use it is if it's on my finger!" I exclaimed. I was doomed.
Or was I? Suddenly, the idea just came to me. "This is gonna hurt!" I muttered to myself. I removed a piece of metal from the dash board revealing some circuts. I squeezed my eyes shut, and grabbed hold of one of the wires. Pain shot through me entire body as electricity from the wire zapped me. However, despite the pain, I held on as hard as I could. Some of the Nova Energy was flowing through the wire, and therefore into me. "NOVA DODGE!!!" I shouted.
I appeared in another room of the ship. "Computer, where am I?" I asked. "Room 42." It replied. Then it said, "Nova Ring Energy at 80%. Enemy's energy beam approaching the ship." "Computer, where's the loose circut?" I asked. "Right behind you." It replied. I turned around, and saw 7 large circut breakers. By large, I mean about the size of a living room. One of them was disconnected, thus breaking the circut. "Okay, this should be simple enough." I said to myself.
I ran over to the loose circut breaker and attempted to reconnect it. It wouldn't budge. I put in all my effort, but I was still hurting from that last stunt I pulled. "It's stuck!" I exclaimed. "Grrr... If only Marvin were here! He could fix it!" I shouted. "Did somebody call me?" I heard a depressed voice ask. "Marvin?" I asked in shock. "More specifically, a Marvin model 2.0, with twice the depression. Don't ask me why they would do that, I think people just enjoy seeing robots suffer. It makes their pathetic little lives so much easier to bear. Life. Don't talk to me about life." The robot said. "Marvin, shut up and help me out here!" I demanded. "I'm not going to enjoy it." Marvin replied. "If you don't help me, we'll both die!" I exclaimed. "Finally. I was beginning to think the end would never come." Marvin said. "Listen you bucket of bolts, if these aliens kill me, the entire human race is doomed!" I exclaimed. "So what? I don't get what you find in life that makes it so enjoyable. Honestly, I can stand it. It gives me a headache trying to look at life from humans' perspectives." Marvin replied. "Allright, you asked for it. Help me, or I'll use my machine guns to give you a reproggramming you won't EVER forget!" I shouted. Marvin recoiled in terror. That was the biggest threat you could use on a robot. "Okay, I'll help." Marvin said, finally agreeing.
"Energy level at 70%. Enemy's energy beam approaching the ship at an accelerating rate. Impact in T-minus 35 minutes." The ship said. "C'mon, help me push this thing!" I commanded. "That won't work. It only moves when you activate a certain switch." Marvin replied. "And where is this switch?" I asked, annoyed. "Over there, behind that metal panel." Marvin replied. "It's the red one." He said. I ran to where he was pointing and removed the panel. There were 20 switches. All of them were red. "Oh yeah, REAL helpful!" I shouted. "Why the sarcasm? I told you which one it is. It's the red one." Marvin said. "THEY'RE ALL RED, YOU IDIOT!!!" I shouted. "Huh, I wonder who could have done that. When I read the instruction manual, it said only 1 was red. Although, seeing as it was built by humans, such a ridiculous mistake is expected." Marvin replied. "Which one is it?!?" I asked frantically. "I don't know." Marvin answered.
"Nova Ring Energy level at 60%. Impact in T-minus 30 minutes." The computer announced after 5 minutes. "Great, just great... Wait a minute, Marvin, send them a message." I said. "What should I say?" Marvin asked. "Tell them that if they continue firing, they'll destroy the Nova Dodger, which is the thing they wanted in the first place!" I exclaimed. "Okay. Message sent." Marvin said. After a minute, he said, "They say they don't need the Nova Dodger any more. They've extracted the blue prints for it, so they can create their own fleet." "WHAT?!? Man, today just isn't my day." I muttered. "It's never MY day. Every morning is exponentially worse than the previouse evening, and as the day progresses it only gets worse and worse." Marvin said. "Then why don't you just kill yourself, seeing as you AREN'T HELPING!!!" I shouted. "Because, according to the laws of robotics, a robot cannot self-terminate." Marvin replied. I was pulling out metal panels everywhere, trying to make sense of the wires.
"50%. Impact in 25 minutes." "Why don't you just use the computer? You can modify the proggramming so that the circut breaker will reconnect itself." Marvin suggested. "Hey, that's a great idea! Wait a minute... WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT EARLIER?!?" I asked with rage. "I was still mad about that threat you made." Marvin answered. I ran over to the computer and turned it on. I brought up the ship's programmes, and searched for the one on the circut breakers.
"40%. 20 minutes." I was typing furiously, trying to get the ship to rotate it's gears so that the circut breaker would reconnect. After a minute, I accidentally just made it more broken! "Uh oh. That can't be good." I said. The disconnected breaker was now even farther from reconnecting than when we started! "This isn't working! I'm doomed!" I shouted. "You finally accepted that?" Marvin asked. "NO! Marvin, start examining the wires and try to figure out which switch connects the disconnected circut breaker!" I demanded. "Okay." Marvin said.
"30%. 15 minutes until impact." All I could hear was my typing and Marvin tinkering with the wires. Every once in a while, I would hear gears turn, but I still couldn't get the circut breaker to connect just right! "C'mon... C'MON!!!" I shouted. "It's not going to work." Marvin said, still busy with his wires. "Shut up and help!" I yelled. "Fine, fine. I think I should let you know--" "That you're very depressed right now? Well guess what? I DON'T GIVE A DAMN!!! NOW GET BACK TO WORK!!!" I yelled as loud as I could. Nothing was working. I kept getting really close, only to find an error and have to start all over again. It would have been incredibly tedious had it not been for the fact that if I didn't succeed, the entire human race was doomed.
"20%. T-minus 10 minutes until energy beam impacts the ship." "DAMNIT!!! I HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN!!!" I shouted, seeing as my latest try had failed. "WHY CAN'T I GET THIS DAMN THING TO WORK?!?"
"10%. 5 more minutes before impact."
"1 minute until impact. Now playing soothing music to relieve stress." The computer announced. "Wait, what?" I asked in confusion. All of a sudden, I heard, "Sunshine, lollypops, and rainbows, so many things!" "Aww, sonnofabitch!" I shouted. Of all the songs in the world, WHY?!?
"30 seconds." Marvin and I were working like clockwork to try and fix the circut.
"20 seconds." "C'mon! Work with me, baby!"
"10 seconds. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2.---"
To be continued...
