Within three to four hours I had packed all the necessities for the trip ahead, with help from Valeria, and amazingly enough, Vincent. He seemed to be marginally reluctant to help, probably out of fear of Akar’manak. Henry would tease me about my dress playfully when I seemed the most depressed about our situation, and I would tease him back about still having to wear his now dirty clothing.

“Ah, I have had an outfit made for him if he is willing to take it,” Vincent spoke up in the middle of one of our teasing arguments, “I had the seamstress create an outfit that will compliment hers, without all the frills, but with the physical protection.”

“Thank you,” Henry said as I giggled, “What are you laughing about, Fresia? Why is this funny that he thought of me, too?” Henry was now laughing as well, leaving Vincent to look between us in confusion.

I was imagining the outfit, lots of pretty fabric, but not as frilly as mine. Maybe a kilt of a pastel blue with flowers embroidered on it, and I guess Henry had thought along the same lines, or he would not have been laughing with me.

“What have I missed?” Valeria walked back into the kitchen we were in; we were supposed to be packing extra food for just in case. She looked to the confused Vincent and started to laugh, causing Henry and I to stop and look at her just as quizzically.

“I am so sorry,” She said through stifled giggles as she wiped some tears from the corner of her eyes, “I can read Vincent’s mind, since I am his dragon, and he thinks you two are laughing at him,” I shook my head, starting to giggle again, “He thinks you must be thinking of something very feminine for Henry.”

Vincent glared at Valeria as his face reddened, though he said nothing. I spoke up immediately, starting to laugh again, “That was exactly what I had been thinking, and I believe he was, too,” I jerked a thumb back behind me toward Henry.

I walked over to Vincent and draped one arm over his shoulders in a friendly manner, “It was not at you, it was at thoughts of what you potentially had created for Henry.”

Vincent said nothing for a moment and just stared at me, his face only about a foot from mine, “You are beautiful when you laugh and smile,” He said quickly before shaking off my arm and leaving the kitchen swiftly. So, he still liked me… goody.

I turned away from the now slowly swinging door to see Henry and Valeria staring at me, “What?” I snapped at them; their eyes left my face and went back to packing the food.

“Nothing,” They said in unison. I stood, rooted in place for a few seconds longer before helping them to finish packing; nobody uttered a word anything until we had finished.

“Shall I show you the garments, Henry?” Valeria addressed Henry, who was zoned out on a stool near the island in the kitchen.

“Sure,” He said half-heartedly, looking at me fleetingly before he rose and followed Valeria out the kitchen door. I followed them, almost noiselessly, into a room not far down a hall to our left. The room was decorated tastefully; a bed with a light blue patchwork quilt on it, an oil fueled lamp on a bureau to its right, and a closet on the other side. There was a mirror near another door, which I believed to be the entrance to the bathroom.

On the bed, was what looked like higher class journeyman attire, completed by a coordinating cape with hood. It had dark green trousers of what looked like a soft linen fabric, and a white cotton shirt, soft as well. The front of the shirt tied like the back of a corset, but not near at tight. The cloak was a slightly lighter shade of green, and had ties within to hold daggers if need be.

I smiled as I saw the shocked look pasted on Henry’s handsome face, and his blue eyes roamed over the garments multiple times. A smile spread across his face and he walked over to it, running one finger over the fabric of the cape. He was obviously happier with is outfit than I was with mine.

Valeria took me gently by the arm and led me from it, closing the door behind us, “We better give him time to change,” She said, smiling at the skirts of my dress.

“What are you smiling about?” I looked down to see that my whole dress, though just as frilly as before, was now a forest green, much like Henry’s new clothes, “How did this happen?”

“I guess Vincent had just wanted to see you in pink before he changed it to the official color,” She said, smiling at some thought that Vincent had, “He cares about you more than you think; he does try to do things to please you,” She was talking about Vincent.

“I know he does, but I think he tries too hard to impress me,” I said, fingering some now green chiffon, “Why is he being so nice?” My other hand clenched into a fist as Valeria answered.

“I do believe he already loves you; he stayed by your side the whole time you were unconscious from the attack,” She glanced at the closed door containing Henry and smiled, “He, too, stayed by your bed almost the whole time; unlike Vincent, Henry needed to rest and eat.”

Henry emerged then, smiling ear to ear, wearing the journeyman clothing. I choked when I saw him; he was gorgeous! The colors were perfect with his skin, hair, and eyes; I looked him over fully, much like how Vincent had looked at me when he had first met me.

Henry looked at me, laughed, and looked to Valeria, “Will you speak with Vincent and give him my thanks?” He glanced at me again, this time shocked, “Wasn’t your dress… pink before I came out here?”

“It was just Vincent,” I said, smiling even more flirtatiously than usual. He was so amazing… and his attitude was finally starting to match his attractiveness: FANTASTIC!
