Sequerrian Pt. 13Authors Comments: YAY!! MY LUCKY NUMBER!!!
|
We talked for hours, the others being allowed to enter the room when I needed food, or more embarrassing than that, a need to go to the bathroom or have my soiled bandages changed. During each break, Akar’manak stood and stretched as far as the cage allowed, flexing his finger and toes, cracking his knuckles and neck, and shape shifting all the while.
He told me why he had attacked me, and it still made no sense to me; at least not how he did it. He had been under the immediate influence of the Duchess of Purge, but had broken free not long before attacking me. He sensed an accomplice nearby and was forced to attack me for image. The other creature, as he had predicted before he attacked me as a ruse, had returned to the evil duchess, informing her of my murder. Her need to “kill” me was satiated, but how long until she went after Henry? What was her motive in the first place?
“Miss… Missus, are you okay, Miss?” The maid, helping me with the weird new contraption called a toilet, spoke to me in an urgent tone. I looked up at her and, partially annoyed at her interruption of my thoughts, smiled slightly, nodding. She smiled, relieved that there was nothing wrong with me, and helped me back into the room with my new… well… I guess he could be called my new friend.
“Do you enjoy that invention? It was planned to be revealed to your kind far into the future, but I guess a special few will view it long before its… magnificent creation,” He laughed at the decisions and thoughts of people far into the future of my world, but I did not find it entertaining. I did not like that thing one bit; it made so much noise, and the waist of all that water!
“Come, we shall talk longer, if you wish,” He reached a lengthened a nail through the bars and tapped my couch. I smiled at his willingness to talk with me, and urged the maid into walking me faster to the couch. Once laying me down, Akar’manak shape shifted into a tall man with black hair and deep blue eyes. She stopped, staring at the man in the cage, and ran quickly from the room, her eyes bright with tears.
“What did you just do to that poor girl?” I glared at him, his now purplish-blue eyes glinting with laughter.
“Just a little bit of fun, that was all.”
“Why was she about to cry when she left then, if it was only a little bit of fun? It did not seem like such according to her.”
He sighed and his eyes went back to being the deep blue the girl had stared so longingly at, “I took the form of the man she loved… back before he joined the Duchess of Purge. He married the witch, leaving her behind without so much as a goodbye or even coming back to say anything more to her; he just up and left one morning.”
“How did you know that, and why did you decide that torturing her so would help her heart mend any faster?” He was loading my mind with so much new information that I was sure to suffer from a massive headache that night.
“I can see the past of humans, humans like Henry, you, and that maid,” He looked toward the door, obviously paying full attention to something elsewhere, “She is doing as I planned, she will come to visit me tonight,” He said, smiling.
“Is that what you want, some fifteen year old girl coming in during the night to speak with you?” I glared at him; he was being so cold hearted.
“She is much older than that, she is much closer to my twenty-eight years,” He said quietly, smiling at whatever her future decisions were, “She is twenty-six and a half.”
“She looks… so much younger and she acts so much more innocent than usual twenty-six year olds,” I thought, even though he was three years younger, Henry was a good idea of what an average twenty-something year old would act like, minus the I-Am-So-Much-Better-Than-You-Because-I-Am-The-Prince attitude. You know the jealousy when Vincent flirted so fervently. That is exactly what I mean.
“She has vowed to be and look innocent until her love arrives for her again, repenting for his lies and deceit.”
“She is still waiting for that man? He is wedded to the Duchess of Purge, he will not return, of that I am sure.”
“He will not, and I plan to change her mind on that decision,” He grinned again and looked away from the door, back to me.
“Do you like the maid, Akar’manak?” His face looked shocked and nervous for a split second before he composed himself and changed shape to the creepy, yet always cute, blonde man.
“A man never tells his thoughts, or at least the hidden ones, to anyone,” He tapped his temple once and grinned devilishly. So, he did like her; good for him, now he had a real life past what used to be the man who served the Duchess of Purge. If his story was true, like he so earnestly backed up, he was taking great leaps to be normal. His willingness and wanting to become a normal person reminded me of Henry.
I smiled to myself and closed my eyes, thinking about all I had heard today, and above all else, Henry.
“Is she awake?” I heard the small padding of the maid’s feet as she entered the room and addressed my new friend.
“No,” I heard him restrain a chuckle as she lit more lamps nearby for them to see each other by, “She is fast asleep,” He knew quite well that I was not asleep, but obviously wanted to talk with her.
“Oh, I am glad,” Her voice was as small as her body. She was a small blonde, maybe 5’ 3” at the most, and she was a petite little thing. She was well mannered and seemed to enjoy people’s company, and horses, because she smelled of a stable most of time she attended me.
I kept my eyes closed so she would feel comfortable with talking to him, though I so desperately wanted to speak with them, or see how they reacted to different sentences and comments. Within a few minutes of idle chit chat about animals and weather, I fell asleep.
