Sequerrian Pt. 10
|
It was about two feet tall and round, like a little ball with a head, feet, and chubby little arms on it. Its head, dominated by one large and extremely curious brown eye, had a long nose like an elephant, and the long ears of a hound dog. It had three tails, each looking to be about four feet in length and very different from each other. The first looked like the rope and tassel for expensive drapes, and it thrashed around like a squirrels tail, the end hanging loosely and swaying lightly. The other two were like animals, one being one of a beaver and the other that of a Persian cat; both thrashed about likewise, seeming to have a mind of their own. It wore a pinstriped vest and a matching top hat, finishing this queer little creature’s ensemble.
“Where are my manners? I am sorry if I startled you with such an open question; I am Aquarloftyne, at your service,” It, I suspected it to be a boy, bowed as low as his chubby body would allow, and he squeaked with the effort, making Henry and I giggle.
“Hello, Aquarloftyne,” I curtsied to the little creature, still smiling about his cute little bow.
“Why do you laugh, my lady? These are grave times for Fairqwerest. I do understand that you are new to this world, for you are humans, but I do wish you would understand that things have to be bad here in order for us to call upon humans,” He looked away from us, a silvery liquid pooling at the bottom of his eye like a tear. It spilled over in one big droplet and crystallized before shattering on the ground in thousands of microscopic shards. He was quite a weird little critter, and so very emotional.
“She was not laughing about your situation, little one,” Henry spoke, smiling too, “You are quite funny looking to us, and she was just enjoying seeing such a delightful creature, and such a friendly one at that.”
Aquarloftyne’s disposition rose immediately to one of happiness and cheer, “You like me then, madam?” His voice rose higher than his normal moderately squeaky tone to one much higher.
“Oh, of course I do,” I smiled at him before asking a question I had wanted to ask from the very beginning of the adventure, “What exactly is so wrong with Fairqwerest? It looks peaceful and, to be truthful, nicer than our world,” I motioned to Henry and myself.
“Oh, Lord Tussand’s magic is keeping this world pleasant to the eyes, but underneath the façade it is in turmoil. You see, the Duchess of Purge has unleashed horrible creatures onto out world, and…”
“Please, slow down; I am already confused, who is Lord Tussand?” I was extremely curious as to know who this Lord Tussand was; he sounded very powerful.
“Oh, I am so sorry, that is his name for us to address him as,” The cute little creature made a motion close to that of a shrug and continued, “His full name is Lord Vincent Tussand, the one and only ruler of Fairqwerest for three thousand years, or so my elders have told me.”
Vincent, a Lord for three thousand years? But he did not look a day over twenty-seven! He was definitely holding some things back from us, and for some reason, it hurt me immensely, “Did your… Lord pass through here with an elderly woman not that long before we came through the portal?”
“Oh, yes, His Majesty did. He and his dragon passed through here not that long ago, and they went in the direction of the castle,” He pointed in the direction of the castle with one short, chunky arm; I saw nothing but forest, flowers, and sunlight, “He told me to guide a beautiful woman and a surly man to the castle as quickly as possible once they emerged from the portal,” His tails thrashed even wilder with excitement, and he bobbed his head up and down happily.
“Oh, he did, did he?” Henry spoke with malice and anger coating his tone like pollen on a bee’s legs, “I cannot wait to speak with him again.”
“Oh, I am so glad!” Aquarloftyne clapped his pudgy hands and jumped like a small child with a new toy, “We shall go to the castle in haste then, for you wish to speak with His Majesty so badly I would never think to tarry here any longer and keep you waiting.”
“No, I did not mean…” Started Henry, but the little creature was already off at an amazingly fast paced waddle in the direction of the castle through the forest. I ran to catch up with him, and Henry followed behind me as quick as his legs could carry him.
“I do not know why he thinks of you as surly, sir, I think you to be a mighty nice human,” Aquarloftyne said cheerily as we walked along through the forest at a steady pace behind him, “But he was right about one thing, you are a beautiful lady,” I blushed a crimson red as the little guy spoke. He was such a sweetheart.
