Chapter 24 (Ten years later)
Claire finished the last dish left in the sink and turned off the water. Strong arms wrapped around her waist and hoisted her into arms of a loving husband. Jasper pulled her close and kissed the tip of her nose, "I love you."
"I love you too Jasper."
So nice was there exchange of quiet words ruined when Damien and Natalie ran in the kitchen chasing each other with dead animals. Nikolas opened the kitchen door just as they were giggling on the floor. "I thought I told you two to stop bringing in dead animals. Eat them outside or so help me I’ll…"
Nikolas patted them each on the head and pushed them outside with a dastardly smile. He chased them around the yard and fell with Natalie draped over his stomach. She giggled and changed form. Her excitement showing in her lightly coated tail.
Damien changed with a playful snarl biting at the corners of his mug. Nikolas laughed into his other form so easily they hardly saw it. Damien and Natalie both squealed with excitement as Nikolas chased them into the woods.
Claire watched them bound away from site and kissed Jasper on the cheek. How she missed Natalie and Damien made her heart ache. Ten years still wasn’t enough time to stop mourning, she thought that she never would. Jasper whispered, "Stop. The past is the past." How sadly enough those two reminded her of them.
"I know but something tells me that I’m wrong."
"What could happen now?"
There was a loud squeal from the woods and a blood curdling cry. Jasper and Claire paused for not more than a second and they were then running off in that direction. Jasper grunted and ran on, Claire stopped and smelt the ground. She nuzzled a piece of paper free from a tangled tree with her nose.
Jasper changed back and read it. Tis a pity you wouldn’t let me into that wonderful mind of yours…things could have been different Claire they seriously could have. I mean Hanna!
Confused Jasper gave Claire the paper, she read it and all those suppressed memories of that eventful month came streaming back, but in a new light. It never had been Damien who killed Natalie or Audrey. He never attacked her…yes of course he was a werewolf who couldn’t control his powers but it never happened the way she’d thought. Steve was truly a vampire but it wasn’t Claire or Damien who killed Kat.
She’d cried so long for everything that she’d done to Damien, now to finally realize that it wasn’t him that did anything but love her. Claire shook Jaspers hand and pointed to a tree with deep gashes carved in its side.
"Don’t worry, I’ll find them Claire." He hugged Claire tightly and kissed the top of her wild hair. It now reminded him of little Natalie swinging on the swings, joyous. His own pups were lost, as was his long time friend. He glanced at Claire and did a double take.
Then a name struck her.
Gregory.
(Yeah it's the end...I know it's real sad but think about it...you read a stroy with a semi-happy ending. I tried not to kill everybody atleast *Evil grin*)
