Chapter 18 “Steve…why?” Sweat beaded on his face and ran down the back of his neck as Damien tried to hold back the change. His skin rippled with an itch he just could not scratch. Steve still paced the room watching Damien battle with curiosity. “What ever do you mean my dear Damien?” a smile cracked his smooth features, “Is everything alright Damien?” Steve held back his laugh and sat down across from his sick friend. He could smell the blood that boiled underneath Damien’s exterior and it some how repulsed him. Maybe it sickens me because he is my friend? I do not know…but whatever makes me feel this powerful must be good. “Steve I’ve really got to go.” He stood and fell back down without much effort, “Urgh…” I must get out of here! Steve leaned forward and lightly touched Damien’s arm; there was a ripple flowing threw Damien’s veins and ligaments that were unknown to Steve. It intrigued him greatly. He took a deep breath and placed his hand over Damiens. Damien’s thoughts, feeling, and past flew from his mind into Steve. He just about gasped from exhaustion when he broke contact with Damien. Jesus…what the hell happened? Steve glared at Damien with a look of betrayal. He thought that Damien and himself could be blood brothers; bound by the silent liquid flowing threw each other’s veins. Before his eyes, Damien had crushed that idea. “Damien?” Damien crawled to the floor, curled with the pain, and torture the change made. He howled and cried as his face distorted and his back broke. He felt the horrible pain of his legs extending and forming into a new. He howled and cried until it almost knocked him unconscious. “Damien?” Even in pain, Damien’s instincts kicked in; his head snapped forward and he snarled at Steve. His mind could not control the beast within and sometimes it blocked him out entirely. Steve hissed at Damien, anticipating an attack from him. Damien felt the beast inside fighting its way out, but he could not let it. Not on his friend, that was betrayal at its worst. Tears streamed down Steve’s eyes, “Why Damien? Why?” Damien tried to speak but he barked instead; human speech was not possible with his misshapen mouth. “I'm sorry…Do forgive me…” Steve flicked into the kitchen and returned with a silver knife in hand, “You’ve been corrupted Damien and I'm going to rid you of this curse.” He raised the knife and missed Damien by inches. Damien raced for the door but Steve stood in the way before he even thought of it. There was no way out; he would either die or Steve would. Steve lunched at Damien and missed his fur once more. One mark by the knife and Damien would die from the poison. He jumped at Steve and caught him off guard. They tumbled on the living room floor breaking objects in their destructive path. Damien landed on top of him and tried to rip out Steve’s throat with his teeth. He caught hold of Steve’s arm and twisted savagely with his mouth. He cried out in pain and threw Damien away. “Damien…would you still care to hear that story of mine?” he threw the knife from hand to hand and eyed Damien with horrible intentions, “I'm not entirely human either…you’re not the only one with a secret.” Steve leaped and landed on top of Damien. He struggled and eventually pinned him to the ground, “Damien…” he whispered, “I'm going to kill you and that girl of yours…but you first.” He raised the knife and struck home.
