She sat up and the memories of last night flooded into her thoughts. Sudden dizziness overwhelmed her causing her to fall back. She landed safely on her mattress, but she felt like she had just been punched in the face. Slowly, she recovered as she made her way to the bathroom across the hall. She looked at her reflection and didn't like what she saw. Her hair was impossibly tangled and she had a purple bruise on her cheek. She barely skimmed the top of it and it made her flinch. School was gonna suck. She looked down and immediately jumped into the shower. She turned the knob and let the burning water wash away the dry blood. She hooked the shower head and moved it along her legs. She discovered more bruises on her thighs. She replaced the shower head once she was sure all the blood was gone and started to rinse her hair. She stepped out realizing she still had her t-shirt from yesterday. That's all that was left on her. A cold shiver crawled down her spine. Quickly she wrapped a towel around her bottom half and raced across to her room. She closed her door and slipped on some underwear. Then she caught sight of her mattress. It was covered in mainly blood and she almost threw up. She grabbed her towel and started to clean up the mess. There was a knock at the door, but they didn't wait for her to answer.

“Maddy, are you okay?”

Madison paused before replying,“Yeah, I'm fine,mom.”

“Oh, well if you need anything. I'm here.”

“Yeah, thanks.”She returned to cleaning waiting for the sound of the door to click shut. It's now that you choose to care? Odd timing.

Once the door was shut she went to her closet to pick out which uniform to wear today because she actually had that option. She decided on her version of the boys uniform. Then she remembered how she had come upon receiving. Apparently, the school she attended thought her name Adison, so they sent her a boy's uniform and she decided to make the most of it until they realized she was a girl which wasn't long because they made her change right when she got to the school. She chuckled to herself as she slipped the black trousers on. The green suspenders hung down the sides and her white polo rested on her torso as her green plaid tie rested loosely on top of it. She grabbed her brush and started to brush through her hair realizing it would help if it was dry. Her hair drier laid on her small desk in the corner and she plugged it in flipping her hair, so she was half way upside down. It dried quickly and now she was able to go to school.

She walked out of the house without encountering anyone so she was content on her walk to school. That's when she saw Cody. Anguish flooded into her body. She put her headphones in her ears trying to drown out the feeling.

“Madison.”

Why can't he just leave me alone?

She walked faster almost at a power walk speed and then turned up the volume on her mp3.

“Madison, please.”Somehow he had caught up and was able to grab her arm. She was whirled around and she ran into him. “Madison, I just wanna talk.”

“About what?” She was pressed against him and he held a tight grip on her arms.

“I'm sorry and I need you to forgive me. Yes, I know I didn't tell you, but it was because I was afraid. I was afraid that people would find out. I couldn't handle what you were going through. Madison, I just couldn't deal with it.”

She stared at him for a moment trying to figure out how to respond. She finally came up with one, “I can't.”

“What?” A look of confusion crossed his face.

“I can't.”

He let go of her arms and took a step back. “Okay.”

They both stared at their feet until Maddy mumbled she was sorry. She ran off toward the Red Gates leaving Cody staring at his black dress shoes.
