Alicia woke suddenly woke and found herself sitting in Brett's arms. Not knowing what had woken her she put it aside and checked her watch. It was about midnight and the full summer moon was high above their heads. She wiggled out of his arms making sure not to wake him. It's weird how he was able to fall asleep sitting up.
She sat across from him taking in all his features. His hair was an unusual dark brown. It was unusual because the way the light hit it made his hair look like it had a deep red in it like a burgundy. His skin was a light tan and it seemed flawless. "Lucky, bastard."
Brett stured and opened his eyes slowly. He realized Alicia wasn't in his arms and started to panic. Until he looked up and saw her watching him. "How long have you been watching me?"
Alicia yawned and said,"Not long. I woke up a few minutes before you did."
"Oh, okay."He stretched out his arms and attempted to stand up, but he quickly fell back down. Luckily Alicia had a quick reaction. Brett smiled and sat back down on the ground. "Thanks."
"No problem." For a few awkward moments they stayed silent. Then Alicia asked,"How come I've never seen you around here before?"
"I just moved here from Shady Spring, West Virginia. A small place with a population of about 2,098 people."
"Why did you come to Forks?"
"Well, it's bigger."
"Not much. Well, I guess I should get going. Anya's going to kill me."She said as she started to stand up.
"Um...Could you help me to my house first 'cause my legs are still a little numb."
"Yeah, sure I can do that. Where do you live?"
"About that. I don't know."He said giving a shy grin.
"Then, how was I supposed to help you get there?"
"I was going to tell you drop me off at some random house, but you seem to be a really nice girl, so I didn't want to lie to you."
Alicia sighed and walked over to him pulling his arm over her shoulder."You can stay with me. My house is just outside the park."
"Are you sure? I don't want to bother you."
Pulling him up slowly she realized he smelled like pine trees and rain. It smelt good. Coming out of her daze she said,"Just lean on me and we'll be there in a moment."
Without arguing they walked to an old two story house that looked as if it was about to fall over. Brett asked a little scared,"You live there?"
"Yeah, just wait until you get inside."
"Okay." As they walked up the stairs to the door the door swung open showing a young woman looking to be about 25. She didn't look very pleased either.
"Alicia Minuet Trinity Jones. Where in the world have you been? Do you know what time it is?" The woman's gaze solely fixed on Alicia.
"Anya this is Brett. I was at the park with him. We were talking and his legs went numb and he can't make it to his house."
Letting the two in Anya looked Brett up and down. Not bad Alicia. Not bad. "He can stay tonight. He's going to have to sleep in your bed, Although it's not much of a bed."
"It's a futon. It's a bed."Alicia protested as she walked Brett upstairs.
"Whatever you say."Anya shouted up the stairs before walking into the kitchen.
On the outside the house looked old and run down, but on the inside the house looked brand new. Their was an antique chandelier hanging as you came in and a staircase wrapped around the room leading to the second floor. The floor was either wood or a very soft carpet.
They finally reached Alicia's room at the end of the hall on the left, but before going in she pointed to a door right across from it,"That's the bathroom if you ever need to use it."
Brett nodded and pulled his arm from around Alicia's shoulder. His legs were starting to feel like they were attached to him again. Alicia had walked in already and turned on a light. The room's walls were white, red, and black alternating every other vertical stripe with silver. Also on the walls were random drawings of umbrellas, rabbits, coke bottles, and everything else you could think of. In the corner was a futon mattress with pillows and a comforter laying on it. There was only a desk and a dresser for furniture with books and notebooks resting in piles on them.
"Sorry my rooms kind of a mess."Alicia said trying to pick up the pencils and charcoal laying on the floor.
"It's fine." Brett walked over to the futon and laid down looking up at her ceiling. He rested his head on his hands as he read a quote written in silver on the ceiling. "Promises are just lies with pretty little ribbons tied to them." Another quote was beside it,"Love is like war. Easy to start. Hard to end. Impossible to forget." He kept reading more and more until he realized the entire ceiling was covered except one small corner right above him. "Why doesn't that corner have a quote in it?"
She stopped picking things up and sat beside him staring at the corner. She looked down at Brett,"Because I want to put something there that when I wake up and see it I will be able to feel happy. Something that I vaguely remember feeling."
Brett sat up and stared into her eyes. He saw nothing, but sorrow in them. He pulled her in his arms giving her a hug which startled her at first, but she gave in and hugged back.
"I hope you find that quote."
