Chapter 5

Alis

I woke up to find that Regor had left me without leaving me anything except his gift which I just realized I had not opened yet. My anger had fled as quickly as it had engulfed me. I sat up and grabbed the little white box and pulled off the the velvety black ribbon. Inside the box was a beautiful white pearl hooked on a black piece of leather. I immediately tied it around my neck and jumped out of bed to see how it looked. I decided I had to thank him, so I quickly changed into another of my black dresses and ran out the door.

“Milady.”

I turned around to find Triston walking towards me. I didn't have time for this, “What do you want, Triston?”

“If your looking for Regor your not going to find him in his room.”

“Where is he?”I asked glaring at him as a smirk spread across his face.

“If you'd follow me. I would be happy to show.” He slowly led me towards the Grand Hall. It was a huge hall filled with windows covering three of the walls. The windows were covered with translucent black curtains. So, the room smaller than it really was. On the fourth wall facing the doors was were the Queen and King sat in large thrones designed with exotic creatures.

As they stepped through the doors the Queen was sitting her throne while four guards were standing in a half circle around a man in chains. “Hello, mother.”

“Hello, child.”The only time she called me child was when I was in some sort of trouble and I couldn't think of anything I had done, so I shrugged it off and continued walking towards her. As I passed the guards they watched me and had little smirks on their faces almost exact replicas of Triston's. I just ignored them and turned towards that very person. “Triston, you said you would take me to Regor. Where is he?”

He didn't reply because my mother did it for him, “Foolish child, take a look at the man kneeling in front of me.”

I slowly turned thinking it couldn't be him, but to my surprise it was. “Regor?” I quickly turned back to see amusement written on my mother's face. “What are the charges?”

I looked back at him and could clearly see many bruises and a black eye. He was short of breath and I wanted to run to him and take off the chains, but I stood there in horror. “What are the charges?”

“Child, do you not remember the events last night?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Oh you daft little girl, do you not remember that kiss you two shared?”

I stared at her wondering how did she find out about that.

“Oh come, don't tell me you haven't figured out who had informed me of this appalling event. Who other than Triston Flast.”

I turned to see him watching me. As my emotions twisted in my head I saw fear take over his cockiness. I lunged at him and pinned him to the ground. Unfortunately before I had a chance to hit him two guards had pulled me off of him and were now holding me back. “You son of a bitch. What gave you the right to tell her about that?”

I watched as he stood up and laughed. That made my blood boil and I felt as if I was going to explode. I screamed at him, “What the hell are you laughing about?”

“I'm laughing at you.”

“Let me go.”I shouted, but of course the guards would only listen to my so called mother. “I'm going to kill you, Triston. I will kill you.”

“That's enough of your tantrum, child.”

“You. You witch. Why would you do this over a kiss?”

“Because, my dear child, if he doesn't learn that he can't be with you, then how will you ever learn you can't be with him?”

“I don't care what you do to me or him because...because...”

“Because what?” She walked down to me and stared me in the eyes waiting for me to reply.

“Because I love him.” I shouted it so she would know that I meant it. I didn't expect her to hit me, but she did and it stung were her hand had met my face.

Regor

She was fighting for me...us and I was useless. I was unable to move from the beating that I had received just minutes after seeing her. I heard every scream and shout she made until she was hit and that's when I noticed she was wearing the necklace that I had given her. I figured that's probably the reason she came out of her room. Why didn't she just stay asleep?

“I love him and you can't change that no matter how many times you hit me.”She hit Alis again and this time it left a red hand print. Tears started to roll down Alis' face as she spit out some blood. I couldn't do anything and it was starting to piss me off. I was sitting and watching her get hurt and it was all my fault. I had to do something, but I had no idea what I could do.

All of a sudden I felt this shot of pain surge through my body. A shiver ran through my spine. I didn't know what was happening to me. It felt like my body was being pulled apart and the guards surrounding me started to back away from me. My hands started to change in to claws and the chains holding me broke. I still couldn't figure out what was going on, but it started to feel good. I urged the change on. Not long after the claws started to form my ears started to hurt it felt as if they were moving from the side of my head up to the top. I screamed. I couldn't tell if I screamed because of the pain or just to get Alis's attention. Luckily Alis looked in my direction, but her facial expressions changed from anger to fear. The pain started to fade away and my thoughts started to return to what was happening to Alis. Yet again, I couldn't figure out what to do with myself. It was even more confusing with my body feeling so strange. The queen turned to see what her daughter had been staring at and chuckled.

“I see that your little boyfriend has taken the form of Canis Lupis.”she said this as she walked toward me extending out her hand.

I growled and snapped at her hand. How could I take the form of a wolf. I had never changed form before. Besides it had to be in my family genes for me to be able to do that and they had never told me of such genes.

She pulled away laughing, “Stupid dog you can't hurt me.”

I stood up and started to walk forward and she looked surprised. I laughed now. “Wench, you don't know what your talking about.”

“Guards protect your Queen.” She yelled backing away as far as she could, but no guards came to protect her. They had all fled even the ones that had held Alis. She was now lying on the guard watching her mother run away in fear.

As soon as I knew the queen was gone I collapsed breathing deeply. I hadn't done anything except scare the shit out of her and I was breathless. My claws started to shrink back into my normal sized hands and I could only hope the rest of me was changing back to normal. A soft hand touched my cheek. “Alis?”

She stroked the hair out of my face and nodded. “How did you...why did you...”

“I just wanted to keep you safe.”with that said I fell into a deep sleep.
