Chapter 4

Sila

When I opened my eyes I was still sitting in the Whyte Garden leaning against someone. I looked up and remembered last night. I had screwed up and tried embarrassing Roger to get back at him for all the times he had ignored me. I felt so angry with myself that I just wanted to do something or everything to make it up to him. I sat up and reminded myself that he said I shouldn't feel guilty, but how was I not supposed feel guilty. Without noticing I had started to fiddle with the necklace Roger had given me. I don't know why, but I automatically reached for it whenever I started to think about him. It was like a reflex.

I turned around and found him still asleep. He looked peacefully. I wonder what he's dreaming about. As if he read my mind he opened his eyes and smiled., “Mornin' Princess.”

“Good morning, Roger.”I looked down at my necklace and started to twist it in my fingers.

Roger sat up and he reached for my hands, “You know the chain will last longer if you don't fiddle with it.”

“I know, but I just do it without realizing it.”He stared at me and then smiled again. Then he kissed my cheek causing me to blush just as he did yesterday.

“Sweet revenge.”We both laughed and stood up to walk towards the palace. It was dark outside now and bit frightening. I grabbed his hand just to reassure myself that he was there. He must have taken it the wrong way thinking I was scared or something because he told me I was going to be okay as long as I stayed with him. I quickly let go of his hand, “I know that. Don't just assume that I'm scared because I grabbed your hand.”

I started to walk ahead when I heard a noise come from a bush and I ran back to him. “Did you hear that?”

Sila.

“Something just whispered my name.”I turned to the bush, but nothing happened.

“Sila, are you okay. I didn't hear anything.”

The wind blew violently towards that same bush. “I must be hearing things.”

I quickly walked back over to Roger who was looking at me worried. “Stop looking at me funny, I'm fine.”

I took one last look at the bush and walked with him into the palace taking hold of his hand.

Roger

It was extremely weird for Sila to be acting the way she did outside. I mean she was saying she heard voices and that usually isn't a good sign and she did seem a bit shaken' up after. I didn't show her my worry or say anything of it as I took her to her room. “Thank you, Roger, bringing me back to my room.”

“No problem, princess.”I smiled as she turned to open her door, but then she quickly turned around and kissed me on the lips. She walked in her room and shut the door quietly. Still a little in shock I turned and started to walk down to my quarters. I know she's kissed me before, but it was only on the cheek more of a childish kiss than anything. Did she really like me enough to give something as precious as a kiss on the lips? I know it sounds cheesy, but a kiss on the cheek means you are good friends, but on the lips it means so much more. As I walked down the corridor I ran into Notsirt Tsalf, another one of Sila's guards.

“Hello, Notsirt.”

“Oh, hello,Roger. How are you this evening?”

“I'm fine just heading back to Quarters. What about you?”

“Going to take position in front of Milady's room.”

“Okay, good night, Notsirt.”

“The same to you,Roger.”

We did a quick salute and went our separate ways. I reached my room and fell onto my bed letting my thoughts drift back to Sila.
