I don't know how long I was stuck in the small room.
I didn't bother keeping track of days and I couldn't
'cause I didn't have any light at all. I wonder if he knew
that being in total darkness was my weakness.
That's why I became a Firestarter, so I wouldn't be in the dark.
With no light I couldn't do anything. I was only able to sit there.
Sit and thinking about what was hiding in the corners ready to attack.
I rarely was able to sleep, but when I did I had horrible nightmares of
what could be in the shadows. I would wake up screaming. I was so
scared of my own thoughts I wouldn't even move. I sat scrunched up
against the back wall to afraid to reach out not knowing what I would
feel. I was so numb from the cold and from sitting in the same position
not daring to move. I always had my knees to my chest and my face
buried in my knees hoping someone was going to find me. I started to
cry every time I thought of Toma wondering if he was alive. I just wanted
him to save me from this dark space.
Light shed into my dark room and I heard a voice. It sounded so
familiar, but I couldn't remember who it belonged to. He started to say
my name trying to get me to come to him, but I wouldn't, or couldn't,
move to him. I could hear his shuffled steps enter the room, but I
wouldn't move. I was still scrunched against the back wall afraid of what
would happen. Afraid of Toma's dad and the darkness coming back. He
put his hand on my head, but I shook it off .
"Don't touch me." I threatened him lifting my head to see
him."To...ma?"
I lifted my hand to touch his face to see if he was real. I was dreaming.
I had to be, but I touched him and he was solid as anything. I could feel
hot tears run down my face.
"Toma."I shouted it this time still not believing it was him. I tried to grab
him, but my body was so numb I just fell onto him. He pulled me up,
but my legs collapsed under me, so he picked me up like I was a
baby. I buried my face in his chest, so happy that he finally rescued me
from the dark.
