-Chapter Ten-

    I never liked planes, they were too high off the ground. I preferred cars, but there was one thing I liked about being up so high on a plane; the view. I liked to  look down at the earth and see the numerous things that would be so huge in person, but so small from way up here.

    I glanced back over to Kate but said nothing. She was working away at her laptop, with her fingers moved speedily over the keys. Her sunglasses were still in place over her eyes, even though it wasn't that bright. But my mind eventually ventured away from Kate Meyer and back to Puerto Rico.

    From my memories, that island was a beautiful place but I never did like it as much as the states. It was a nice place for vacation and possibly retirement (in the nice areas, that is) but living there just seemed so strange. I would like to go back to the states for college though, I really do want to go to that nice university in New York.

    The concession lady was doing her rounds again and I told her once more that I wouldn't like anything. Every time I did, Kate would arch a brow and I would imagine she would peek over at me out of the corner of her eye. But it was true, I didn't want anything and I wasn't at all hungry or thirsty. Besides, Aunt Lupe would definitely give me a dose of her huge meals when we landed in Puerto Rico.

    Thinking about Puerto Rico made me think about Becca. I had been wondering for some time why she was angry at me (other than the fact I was leaving) and I finally figured it out. She didn't want me to be friends with Lex. That was why she kicked and glared at me the other day. So I wasn't allowed to have anyone else as a friend? Well it's a good thing I left; I could have all the friends I want on the island. But still, I admired her. She was smart and confident and so much more.

    I rested my head back on the seat and took a deep breath. I wasn't tired but I would prefer to sleep for the rest of the trip than have my head explode from all of my thoughts.

    "Get up Jacyln." Kate said in an urgent voice. I groaned groggily and got up from my seat to join the rest of the people who were standing and waiting to get out of the plane.

    I glared at her momentarily -- I don't like it when she calls me Jaclyn -- but she didn't seem to notice and if she did then she obviously didn't care. Outside the window it was still sunny but that was probably because Puerto Rico's time zone was practically the same as Rhode Island's.

    After a long time of waiting, the attendents finally announced that the passengers should board off the plane. Once we entered the airport I noticed that the city we were in was called "San Juan"; when we left I didn't pay much attention to the the tickets.

    "Look for your family, I will get the luggage." Kate said turning away but quickly stopping in mid stride. "And remember, the rest of your items will arrive within the week."

    I moved a few paces around in the airport but there was no sign of Lupe or Tico (I didn't plan on looking for Alejandro because he probably looked nothing like I remembered). But the numerous clusters of people didn't help my search. This place was seriously packed!

    Suddenly something gripped my shoulder and scared the hell out of me. I readied to shove the person away but once I found that it was only Lupe I smiled and hugged her. I probably should call her "tia" instead of "auntie" but I was so used to the English term for aunt.

    "Ah... how I have missed you Jackie!" She sang in my ear and my smile grew larger. Lupe has always had a nice Spanish accent, even when she spoke in English. I used to wish I had a Spanish accent like her and my mom.

    We pulled away from our hug and Lupe began leading me over to another area where Uncle Tico and a young man stood. I had a sneaking suspicion that it was Alejandro, I mean he is sixteen now so that's what he should look like.

    He still had his childish dark curls but his boyish face slimmed out to make him look like the young adult he should look like. But still, his dark midnight eyes made me recognize my long lost cousin.

    "Alejandro! Tico!" I shouted running over to them and hugging them both. I don't know why I was so happy, I mean I just got here and the first thing I did to them was hug them. I was not a big fan of hugging, or any physical contact for that matter.

    Other than Alejandro, they all looked the same as they had a decade or so ago. After a few minutes of warm greetings, Kate Meyer found us and handed over my bags.

    "We will need to talk at your house and once the papers have been signed then I can go back."

    "Yes, yes of course." Lupe replied with her eyes flickering between Kate and I. "I know it was a last minute call but we have everything ready and we were well prepared for her arrival."

    I nodded and followed after my family as they exited the airport. Outside it was nice and warm and sunny, pretty much like the last time I was here. Of course, it was a little too hot for my liking, but it was still nice. After a bit of waking Kate finally spoke up.

    "Is the car far?"

    "Car! We don't need a car when we can walk past the beach!" Lupe exclaimed with a hearty laugh that made me chuckle a little. I was the one who had asked that last time. Kate muttered something under her breath but said nothing else the rest of the way.

    There were no thoughts about the previous day or the morning that tainted my mind, all I thought about was the current situation. There house was in the same nice spot along the beach. It was a warm looking medium sized house with no porch in front, but a huge deck in the back; which made sense because that was where the view was.

    Kate seemed eager to enter the house but soon found it to be a little to warm for her liking. All the windows were open and a few fans on, but nothing could overpower the unbearable heat.

    "Let's get down to business." Lupe said sitting down on a comfortable looking couch. Kate sat across from her and the boring business conversation started. Uncle Tico sat next to his wife quietly also scanning over the material, and Alejandro rummaged through the kitchen.

    "So how long you plan on staying here?" He asked.

    "Why, do you really want me to go that badly?"

    "No, no... I was just wondering..."

    I smiled and nodded. "Well if you must know, two years."

    "Ahh... just in time for graduation. You have a lot to learn over the summer if you want to attend a Spanish-speaking high school in the fall."

    "Yeah, I know." I muttered grudgingly as I glanced over at the clock. It was a little after four o'clock. "So... where's my room?"

    Alejandro drank down the water before answering. "Follow me." He said and I obeyed and followed him up some narrow steps. "Now, it may not look like much, but it has the best view..."

    I instantly loved it.

    It was a calm and inviting room. Comfortable bed and nice wood floor with a gorgeous view (he wasn't kidding). The room was a good size too; not too big like the one at my dad's but not too small like my apartment bedroom was.

    I could definitely stay here for a while.

(Author's Note: Once again, this is not the end because so much more must be written. I didn't do this one on Word so if there are some mistakes then bear with me. I don't feel like going over my material at the moment because I have to babysit in a few minutes.)
