Chapter 3 The next morning I went for a jog with imani in the park.
“Are you going to visit your other brothers and sisters this summer Shannon’’?
“No, Hannah her family, Gregory, Stephanie and troy and there family are coming up to visit for a week”.
“Wow your house will be full”.
“There going to stay at the Hampton inn why’ll there here”.
“Oh”
“What are you doing”?
“My parents are thinking about going to visit my grandparents in porter Ricoh.
Are you going”?
“Maybe im not sure yet”.
“Seems like every one is leaving me this summer”.
“What’s everybody doing”?
“Well derricks going to phoenix to visit his dad, the trouble mint twins are going on a family vacation and Tanya’s still in Maine”.
“What’s about Dan”?
“I don’t know what he’s doing yet”.
‘’Then you have him”.
“I don’t know, he’s so preoccupied with finding a college I don’t think he’d have time for me”
“You know he’d make time. He really does care about you.
“I know”.
‘’We slowed to a walk”.
“You know he loves you”. She pointed out.
‘’He’s been a really good friend”
“No, that’s not what I mean”.
“What do you mean”?
“He’s in-love with you”.
“Yeah right”. I laughed.
“Im serious Shannon” he told me.“When”?We started to walk again.
“About around the time you came here and when you me and him became friends. When he saw how hard it was for you seeing other people have moms and dads and how much you needed someone there for you in your hard times, he devoted himself to you, to be the best friend everyone wants, that friendship quickly became love to him. He’d never let you cry without him having anything to say about it”.
“Why did he never tell me this”?
“He wants to he’s been trying to find a college close to you that’s why he’s stalling till he can figure out where you’re going”.
“Wow I sighed.
“Do you love him”?
“Yes”, same with me when I saw how much he’d be there for me.
“And why don’t you tell him’’.I started to choke up.
“Because I thought he didn’t love me.
“Then why don’t you tell him now”?
‘’Because im not that brave”.
“Oh this is not middle-school crushes Shannon this is real love”. She grabbed me by the shoulders. “Tell him. Because if you wont I will.
“Ok” I smiled. “Ill tells him”. Telling him I loved him is easier said than done.I drove over to his house after a quick shower after my jog with Imani. My heart thudded and beat against my chest as I drove up his driveway.As I slowly started to get out of the car, I heard my name being called from behind me. As I turned I saw a strange woman walking towards me. She wore a ground length dress that looked like something out of the old days when the earth cooled.
“Can I help you” I asked?
“Your Shannon Grace right”?
“Yes. And you are”.
“My name is Danielle Tales. I was sent here by your mother”.
“My heart dropped”.
“I’m sorry you must have me confused with someone else, you see my mothers, and well she passed a while ago’’.
“Oh but she hasn’t, if she had then why would I be here”.
“Listen Mrs. Tales my mother died of a deaise over six years ago, I would know I saw her get buried”.“So if you’ll excuse me”. I began to turn.
“You know she out there, your gut feeling is telling you that. Your dream last night was a message. You’re in grave danger”.I turned back to her. “How did you know about my dream”?
“Please come with me and ill tell you”.
“I’m busy. Maybe another time”?Mrs. Tales seemed to close her eyes for a brief moment then smiled.” All right another time”.She walked away in the direction she came.I was puzzled by this woman and what she said scared me, my mother couldn’t be alive could she?No, never this woman probably doesn’t know and is in denial.I walked up to Dan’s front porch and knocked on the door.I heard someone move around inside and then the door creaked open.
“Oh hello Shannon. It was Dan’s mother Margate. “Come i...iii.in…augghhhhhhhhh chew.
“That’s sounds like a nasty cold Mrs. Shorts’’.
“Yeah that’s the down side of working at a hospital. Come in dear Dan’s upstairs in the computer room”.
“Thanks”.Dan had his head phones on when I walked in the room and he was silently singing to himself, a song I didn’t recognize.I silently walked up behind and was about to grab him by the shoulder and scare him, but he jump up pulling his head phones off a swiping me off my feet.
“And you were going to scare who’?
“How did you know”?He laughed and put me down.
“I saw you coming up the drive way genius. Who was that lady you were talking to?”
“I don’t know she said she knew my mother”.
“Why didn’t you talk to her longer”?“Because she said my mother was still alive, she probably a nut.
Yeah probably”.
“So whatcha working on”?He sat back down at the computer desk. “Just looking at some colleges around this area”.
“Where are you going, or have you not decided yet”?
“None decided, but I was hoping we could go to the same college so I have someone I know there with me”. I was going to do some flirting before I told him how I feel.
“That would be cool. Do you have any ideas”?
“No not yet. What are you looking at now”? I rubbed my hand against his wide shoulders I could tell that his heart was starting to race because mine was to.
“Albany state the have great dorms and we can get loans”…he started to babble on and on.I shut off the screen monitor and knelt down next to him.
“Can we talk”? I tried to use my flirty face.He gulped. “Sure”.We both got up and sat on the sofa in the room.
“Listen, im really grateful for you being there for me all these years and you know I love you”?
“Yeah.”
“You know you can tell me anything right”?
“Yeah”.We sat in silence for a moment.
“This is the opportunity to tell me something you’ve never told me”. I pointed out.
“Like what”?
“You’re making this extremely difficult Dan”.
“Making what extremely difficult”?
‘’I know you love me. I just said it”.
“Yeah and you know I’d do any thing for you. We’ve been over this”.
“No, no I know your in-love with me”.
“He seemed taken by surprise. Really”?
“Yeah. I smiled. Imani told me”.
“She did, did she”?
“Yes she did”. I smiled.
“So”?
“So what”?
“Do you love me”?Hmmm let’s see how I can tell him how much I love him.I took hold of his face and crushed my lips to his, after his after shock, he started to kiss me back, the kiss became as passionate as can be, his lips were warm and soft under mine. As they moved with each others rhythm, I felt my heart paced like after running and my breath became a wild gasp as I pulled away.
“Does that answer your question”?
“He grinned. Most definitely”.
