The Night My Life Changed

I sat on my rooftop,looking out upon the city.The stars shined above me and I smiled.This was the only time I ever felt at peace.Night was the perfect way to end days.I checked my watch.Damn.It was 5am. Almost Dawn.This was the worst part of my sanctuary.
It always had to end.But that was okay.I knew it would be back.But I'd have to wait 12 hours for it to do so.That made me sad.
I climbed back into my room and shut the window.I grabbed the things I needed for my shower and went downstairs.After setting out my clothes and putting my towel on the door so I wouldn't die from soap in eye poisoning(It could happen!),I turned on the water and shut off the light.This was the closest to night I ever got when the sun wasn't over China.
After my shower,I got ready for school.That entailed eating breakfast,putting my shoes on,and wondering if my parents were ever going to leave their room before I left.They didn't this morning.

School was as mundane as ever.Except Lunch was exceptionally disgusting.I almost heaved at the sight of it.
"Jya,are you okay?"Sarah asked me.I nodded and smiled.When I pointed to the mound of...stuff on my plate she laughed and gave me an understanding look.We didn't speak while eating the one thing the school couldn't possibly mess up:cookies.
"Uh,Jya?"I looked up at Sarah.
"Yeah?What is it?"
"Dessa's starinag at you."I turned around.Sure enough,Dessa Ramirez was looking at me intently.She seemed...confused?She didn't break her concentration when I glanced over.
"That's weird."i said simply. I didn't think much about it. Dessa was an odd girl sometimes.She always seemed to be thinking about something. And she was the top in her advanced math classes. Some would go as far as to say she was a genius. I didn't. She just payed attention and took the time to do everything.
When we were about to leave, I glanced over at her and her friends: Andy and Maria.Maria had headphones on and kept her eyes closed.Andy was reading something as usual.Dessa said something and they both looked at me.I immediatly looked back in front of me and tried to concentrate on not falling.

The next class I had was study hall,which I loved deeply. I grabbed my mp3 player,turned it to a Veronicas song and started to attempt at what we were learning in math.After about 10 minuted,I noticed someone standing in front of me.I popped out an ear and llooked up.
"Jya, you really should stop adding things together before you get to that part of the problem."dessa said,staring at my homework.
"Why?"I asked.Hey,if the top math student wanted to help me,I was going to soak it up.
"Firrad takes off points for doing that.I personally think it makes it simpler,but he thinks speeling it out makes evrything easier.But it gets complicated and wastes paper."
"Know a way to get around that?"I asked,raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah.When you get to the part where you add it,add it.But already have it done before so you don't have to write 16+24=x.You can just write 40=x."
"Simple.Yet effective. Cool."I smiled and bent my head over the paper.Dessa left,muttering about "tonight" I didn't catch the rest,but I had an odd feeling after that.I sighed and wished night would come faster than it was.Lousy Eastern Hemisphere.
