Where the Heart LiesAuthors Comments: The original was better, in my opinion, but the teacher decided to ruin it with her little purple pen.

Where the Heart Lies
In the far future, there will be a legendary friendship unlike any other in the entire history of the Earth. Their names are Evan and Holly. The pair was unlike anyone else in their school- unique. They shared the same views on life, love, and happiness. The couple lived a long proud Buddhist life, a happy life. Holly never thought about something that had not run through Evan’s mind. They are like twins, so in sync.
Evan had always despised the Christian religion and the bible. The one thing he hated was having a view or thought pushed on him. Holly was more open minded. She thought of the bible as a great story book, but at the same time she stayed true to her Buddhist roots. They grew old together, and never forgot each other. They died in their beds as a happy old couple. Unfortunately, they were faced with a terrible decision. During their judgment, it was decided Even should suffer forever in Hell, while Holly gained her wings. If she decided so, Holly could go to Hell with Evan, but Evan could never enter Heaven. It was understood that their worst fears would come to life in Hell. Holly willingly gave her soul to the Devil, and Holly and Evan proceeded through Hell’s gates arm in arm.
As they walked through, they noticed they were young again. They looked just like they did when they was kids. There were all the buildings in Hell that there was on Earth. The only differences were the landscapes, and buildings had reduced to ruble. The furious wind in Hell was like being steam cooked. They proceeded down what should have been Main Street in aw. As they passed by all the department stores, they were reminded of many great times they had. Any other time, it would have been a joyous moment, but Hell put a degrading feeling over everything. But the pair struggled through the red, hot sand together with their heads held high. They realized the worst was to come.
They came to what used to be there favorite hang out, La Dolce Vita. Only now, the coffee shop was torn to pieces. The friends entered the store with caution. An unseen force delved deep into their minds to unlock their worst fears. It did not hurt them, but they knew what was happening. They were unable to move as they were forced to face each other. Simultaneously, they started to bleed and scream in agonizing pain. Something was torturing them. The pain was worse than anything they had ever felt. Their worst fears came to life: seeing each other in pain.
After their voices had faded from screaming, and after their tear ducts had emptied all the tears, they looked at each other and accepted their destiny. And with one deep breath Evan said “Holly, I know the pain is unbearable, and we have nothing left, but no one is able to take my love for you away…… I Love you!” And as Evan regained his ability to cry, Holly replied “No matter what happens, you will always have me, and you will always have my heart. I Love you!” They closed their eyes, and without telling the other, they both prayed to the Devil and offered him their hearts for ever next existence yet to come. One condition was that the other was re-born on Earth, and never had to suffer in Hell again.
The Devil plunged his greedy hands in their chests and took their hearts. They both were reborn without any recollection of the other.
Twenty years pass, and they cross paths on the street. They stopped and stared into each others eyes. “Where have I seen you?” they both asked. “In a dream?” said Evan as his love for Holly over come the pad lock placed on his heart in Hell. “Maybe a dream in a dream?” said Holly, as the chain around her heart crumbled, and gained its rightful position in her chest.
They immediately fell in love. They married and purchased their dream house in the rural hills of France. They had several kids that they passed down their beliefs and legacy too. They never did remember how they knew each other, but never questioned fate.
Characters based on real people.
