War

I was in the 5th vehicle in the convoy when we got hit. It was sometime around 0100 hrs in the morning. I was wearing Night Vision Goggles, so everything was a light shade of green. We were going about 45 mph, dodging potholes, dead animals, and anything suspicious. I had never driven with NVGs, so, my heart was racing. All of a sudden, there is a loud explosion over the roar of the engine of our truck. The convoy came to a complete hault. I was all of a sudden in a stricken sense of panic, yet I kept smart. The lead vehicle was hit when the explosion went off. The sky was covered in nothing but black smoke and vehicle parts. We all moved into a box fomation to protect the downed vehicle. Then, before we could even get out of our vehicles, another explosion from 50 feet in front of me. It had hit right next to the back door of a stryker. Had it been no more than thirty seconds later, the ramp would have been down, and soldiers would have been injured. The sergeant of the vehicle in front of me came over the radio in a rage. He had no idea what was going on, and no one was telling him the status of the soldiers in the lead vehicle. Then all of a sudden, the back ramp on the stryker came down, and all you could see was a bright flash in your NVGs. I immediately ripped them off to see the hatch and middle of the vehicle on fire. Soldiers were pouring out of the stryker with one soldier being carried. Then, without any warning, rounds started cooking off, and hot rounds were flying everywhere. The soldiers on ground had to get out of the way, and quickly, before more people were injured. A soldier came over the radio and started to explain the soldiers injuries. It was extremely hard to hear with all the screaming and background noises. All I could make out at the time was that the soldier was unconcious and had burns over part of his body. Meanwhile, the other soldiers in the other vehicles started to rush the burm on both sides of the vehicles, trying to spot anyone in the area that may have pushed the button. My body had such a huge adrenaline rush that I couldnt stop moving. We had to find the guy(s) that did this. My eyes just wouldnt stop moving, searching every inch of the ground, trying to spot anything that moved. Any sort of wire, anything that indicated the enemy was still in the area. All of a sudden, the radio had clicked back on and the soldier on ground had recovered conciousness. He was complaining about something wrong with his legs and he couldnt hear anything. Another soldier came over the net and stated that the soldier is suffering from a concussion and that his legs are most likely broken. Parts of the axel came up and pushed it upward to the drivers pod. The radio clicked again and the soldiers that were looking had spotted something. There was commotion coming from 300m to our 5 oclock. They also said that they had alerted AWT(Air Weapons Team, Appaches). They were already inbound, and about 2 minutes out. All we could do now was sit and wait while the vehicle continued to burn. By this time, flames had risen to over 20 feet in the air. The whole vehicle was engulfed in flames. Within 1 min, there was a distinct sound of helocopters in the air. Before I could even think, there was this deafening noise. Something like the sound a cellphone makes when vibrating across the table. Thats when you knew it was the mini guns. AWT came over the radio and had alerted us that they had cooked down about 12 guys with AK47s, RPGs, and a few other weapons. Before I knew it, it was over. It felt as if we had been sitting there for 2 hours. We had gotten all this done in 15 minutes. The soldier suffered from broken legs, broken ankles, a concussion, and 2nd degree burns. He is fully recovering.

tido11986 Before anyone comments on how shitty of a writer i am, i just want to let everyone know that this is only to educate people, not to be a story of fame and glory, or a well written one at that. its just so you know what we go through, quite often
