The Vampire
|
Walking through the woods a fear of dread swept through me. I hated these woods, there’s a rumour that people disappear whilst walking through them, and they get taken. I’m not sure if this is true but it’s said that a few years back Karen Smith was walking on her way home from a late party. She was in the same year as I am now. She just disappeared after that. It’s said that the last time someone had seen her was in the woods, and that she had company with her. The police had a search. But she was never found. No one knew what had happened to her.
Tree’s shook and blew together along with the rhythm of my heart. The wind whistled and howled so much like a wolf, that I had to look back to tell myself it wasn’t real. I carried on walking and looked above me for some sort of light from the moon or the stars. But none. The tree’s had taken that away from me. Using their outstretched arms they blocked all light that dared to creep its way through. I could hear the sound of boots hitting the grass, which was no longer green but had turned a brownish yellow. It had faded away along with the leaves from the trees. The leaves that had escaped from the tree’s lay on the floor skittering and rustling from the wind. I looked behind me. No one there. I was sure I was being followed. I could feel someone glaring at me. Watching me and my every move. Walking faster my heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. And then suddenly a hooded figure darted out in front of me from the trees. I could only see a faint outline of his appearance because it was so dark. But I could see his grin, like the grin of a Cheshire cat. He held something in his arm.
I let out a scream. And then…. And then…. Darkness.
I awoke. The pain in my head was unbearable. Blood ran down the side of my face and trickled onto the floorboards. There was no light, but I knew that I was alone. I could hear the awful silence around me. Outside the rain hammered on the window and the thunder boomed and banged. Making the room that I was in shake and rattle. Where was I? How did I get here? All I could remember were those woods and that man. The actual room that I was in reminded me of a dungeon. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling above me and dangled into my hair. The room was empty apart from some blankets that I had slept on.
Then the door suddenly opened. And I was not alone anymore.
He was visible to me only from the shadow cast across the hall. He moved toward me his features clearly visible. His eyes were like emotionless flames piercing into my skin He could feel my blood pumping. He slightly opened his mouth to reveal to white fangs as sharp as razors as blood dribbled down his chin. He spoke. “Who are you?” I stayed paralyzed with fear as his long black cape blew sideways; he edged forward into the moonlight. I looked down to see the outline of his boots as a sense of fear flushed over me. He spoke again. “Who-are-you?”
“My name’s Tom.”
“Tom. And why are you in my castle?”
“I- I don’t know.” Someone else entered the room. The man from the woods. I could see him clearly now. He was the ugliest thing that I had ever seen. His nose was long and pointed, almost like a witch’s nose. His eyes were grey and dull. His whole face and chin was drooped. He walked with a limp almost dragging his one foot along with him. I noticed that he bent down as he walked as well. He smirked again and I could see his teeth. He didn’t have a full set of teeth, some of them were missing. His had turned yellow and had gone rotten.
“He brought me here.” I said pointing to the man. The vampire turned to the man.
“How very nice of you Albert. At last I can feed my young. You shall be rewarded.”
I quivered and the hairs on my back went up at the sound of his words. I could feel sweat dripping down my brow. “It was a pleasure master.”
“Follow me!” The vampire commanded, as he turned leaving me to stare at his greasy black hair on the back of his head. His feet moved to the beat of my heart. I followed…
As he led me up the rickety stair case, I looked around me for some sort of escape. But there was none. The stairs seemed to be never ending. He shoved me through a room where there were some kinds of eggs. Hundreds and thousands of them hanging from the ceiling. Just looking at it made me feel sick with fear. He spoke yet again. “How very unfortunate for you Tom for you to be walking through these woods. Or how very foolish. I’m sorry Tom but me and my young have been hungry for a long time. I hope you will appreciate that.” I take a step backwards as he comes closer to me. I trip and then he darts at me, just leaving me to think of my last thoughts on earth, he whispers to me.
“Goodbye Tom.” I wonder if there’s such a thing as heaven. It might not be so bad up there. I hope so…..
