Chapter One

"We will be landing in Dunlap Airport in 15 minutes or so, so please buckle up and enjoy the last of your flight," the pilot’s robotic voice informed flight 1-15, ringing from the intercom. I sighed 15 more minutes until I enter a small town and be trapped in that hellhole for the next two years. Yippee! Not.

I grabbed my carry-on purse searching for my mini-mirror. Dark moss green eyes stared back at me, a copper stand of hair hovered in my eye. I sighed the old Melanie wouldn't stand for this but since-I cringed when I almost thought of him.

"Miss," a pleasant voice with fake concern said from above me. I looked up to see a caramel haired attendant smiling at me. "I advice you to buckle up so then you will not get hurt," her eyes were wide and doll like, not blinking.

"Okay," I murmured quickly buckling the plane's sad excuse for a buckle. It was exactly like a car buckle, with no other safety straps. Man. does this airline want to kill people?

15 minutes later...

"Oh Melanie!" I heard a feline voice shout threw the mass of people. I sighed; I knew that voice a little too well.

I bounced on my tiptoes to see Justin holding the hand of my mother's best friend Becca. Becca is like a child in many ways, I don't know how Justin does it. Like for example right down, Becca way jumping up and down like a hyper 4 year old.

A big grin forced it's way to my soft pink lips, I have to be nice, whether I like it or not. I ran the distance from were I stood to Justin and Becca. "Ohmigosh!" I cried with fake enthusiasm. "I missed you guys so much!" I hugged Justin first.

"Heya kiddo," he said in his strong Texan accent. Justin was lean and about 6’5; golden blonde hair gelled back carefully and had ocean water blue eyes.

I turned to Becca and she practically pounced on me giving me a rib-crushing hug. "Can't...Breath!" I gasped. For a tiny pixie like girl about 4'5 and weighs about 85 pounds she has a firm grip.Becca let go, thank god.

"Hi! It's so good to see you again!" Becca chirped as she waltzed threw the crowd, Justin carried my duffle bag, he seems to still be sane, and maybe I will end up sane after two years with Becca."Your going to love your room!" she gushed. "It has the best view! And you’re just going to love Matthew and Lucy! And your-"

"Wait!" I shouted we were in the airline's parking lot now. "Who in the hell are Matthew and Lucy!?"

"Calm down Melanie," Justin said in a soothing voice. He gave Becca a dark look for being overexcited and not explaining things properly.

"Matthew and Lucy are going to show you around town, they live next door,"

"Oh," I said getting in a shiny silver Honda. "I thought you guys lived in a penthouse?'" I questioned glaring out my window. Nothing was going my way today. First, I didn't get to sleep in. Second, I'm going to go nuts if Becca says 'love' one more time. And third I don't want to meet Matthew or Lucy.

“We moved to a real home on Lily-pad Bolivar,” Becca said excitedly. “It’s so cute!” she squealed in delight. I nodded smiling. It  better be cute if I’m going to live in it for 2 years!

“Becca, don’t tell her all about everything,” Justin scowled.

1 hour of silent driving later…

“Were here!” Becca rejoiced. I looked to my right with a dazed expression. “Good thing you came here during summer! We have a pool!” Beccca added. Those were the magic words; summer and pool. Images of me in my black bikini with the pink polka dots floating on a blown up chair drifting lazily, of me swimming and splash like a little kid. Ahh, summer. For the first time in mouths my smile wasn’t forced.

“Cool,” I replied. We pulled into a driveway to a big 2 story yellow house with a white trim. I saw a balcony covered in ivy, a freshly mowed lawn and a garden full of yellow tulips. I was going to like it here.

I stared in wonder at the yard, the grass looked so soft. “Do you mind if I stay outside? To look around?” I asked as will all piled out.

“No, we don’t mind,” Justin said towing Miss 20 Questions away with him.

I sighed in relief finally alone, at long last.“Hey there!” I heard someone call from behind me I started to groan as I turn but I stopped dead because right in front of me was a drop dead gorgeous guy wavy jet black hair, deep grayish bluish eye that you could stare into for years, about 6’2, he still had roundness to his cheeks so his cheek bones barely showed and he had a white T-shirt that stretched over his muscular chest and he was wearing faded blue jeans with holes at the knees.

“Hi,” I managed to squeak. I couldn’t believe my eyes, the most god-like creature I had ever seen was talking to me, Melanie Clearwater.

“Are you new in town?” he asked looking like he was actually interested. I nodded fearing my voice might crack if I start talking. He laughed a laugh that I would remember the rest of my life. “Thought so,” he smiled, my heart stopped. “Hale, Ian Hale,”  he said reaching out to shake hands.
