1. Gracie sat at the coffee shop for awhile longer. She had the day off work and she had planned to spend it with Dom, so she had made no other plans.
2. She took another bite of the soup… whatever it was called and smiled as she remembered the name. There was no way she was ever going to say that.
3. “Gracie?” Someone said from behind her.
4. She turned and saw Seth heading her way. “Hey Seth.” She gave an awkward wave and an even more awkward smile when he went to pull out the seat next to hers.
5. “Do you mind if I join you?”
6. “No not at all, I actually would like to have some company.”  She kept the friendly smile on her face when inwardly she was blushing and cringing. Seth was tall, lean, with dark hair and a great smile that he used often. He was very handsome, and very friendly. It was last year she had thought that friendliness had meant more than it did.
7. The fact that he had turned her down was hard enough, the fact she had overheard him later talking to his friends about it was worse. At least he didn’t know she had heard him, but she still had a hard time around him from that point on. And she had to admit that it had shot her confidence in men down a notch.
8. “What is that you are eating?” Seth said as he pointed at her soup.
9. “I’m not exactly sure. It’s a cold soup Dominic gave me to try. It’s good, different.”
10. “You don’t know what it is and you’re eating it?” He looked disgusted. “It’s pink, real food is not pink.”
11. “I know what it is, Dom told me, and I just can’t say it.” She laughed. “He is giving me new experiences.”
12. “Listen Gracie,” he leaned in and used Gracie, he never called her that, “I wanted to talk to you about Dominic and how much you have been seeing him lately.”
13. Grace raised her eyebrows at his parental tone. What in the world was Seth thinking he had to say about her and Dom seeing each other? “Uhm, okay?” She laid down her spoon and stared at Seth.
14. “I don’t think he is as great a guy as everyone seems to think he is. I mean just because he plays well on the team and can find something to say to everyone… well, people think he is amazing. But something is up with that guy; I just don’t know what it is.”
15. “Seth, what does this have to do with me? It sounds to me like your jealous and you don’t want people thinking he’s all that great.”
16. Seth looked at her and shook his head. “I don’t want you to get hurt Grace. You know you are special and that we had something between us awhile back. You should just leave this guy that way I can know your safe.”
17. Grace was so shocked at what she was hearing; all she could do was stare at Seth with an open mouth. “Wait,” she said when she got her voice back, “wait a minute. You and I never had anything going on, and you have never even really spoken to me in two years.”
18. “We are both shy.” He said simply with a ‘no big deal’ shrug. “We would have come around I think.”
19. “First of all Seth, Dominic is a great person, whom I trust. Second, we never had a relationship or anything like one where I would believe for a minute you cared one hoot for me, and third, I know what you really think of me so if you know what’s good for you, you will leave right now.”
20. “Wh...What?” Seth had never had anyone stand up to him before, and wasn’t expecting the first to be Grace. “I do care, how do you know what I feel?”
21. “Ugh, Seth, when I asked you out years ago, I heard you talking to your buddies. I won’t repeat what you said but I know what you really think of me.”
22. “You heard me?”
23. “Yes I did.”
24. “I have to explain Grace, I know there was a reason, there has to be because I really like you, I always have!”
25. “Don’t start Seth. I found someone I like and it just happens to be your competition for most valuable player, whatever, so you’re trying to take away what he has starting with me because you thought I would be easy.” She shook her head. “Go now.”
26. “Grace…”
27. She picked up her cold soup dumped what was left in his lap, and left herself.
