1. “Aahhhhh… this was a mistake this was a mistake this was a mistake!”
2. “Grace calm down and come get the phone will you?” Jen held her hands over the mouthpiece as she yelled up the stairs. She saw Grace walk between the bathroom and bedroom wrapped in a towel and a toothbrush in her mouth. Jen almost burst out laughing. “I’m still going to make you talk to him. It’s a phone not a snake.” Then into the phone she said “Dom? She will be right there.”
3. Grace sat on the edge of her bed and took a few deep breaths before picking up the phone. “Hello.”
4. She heard him laughing before he said hello back to her. “So I already got directions to your place from Jen. And that’s all I really needed, but I just wanted to talk to you again.”
5. “You did?” Grace heard herself say.
6. “Yeah, I’m wearing red. Just thought maybe I should tell you so you don’t wear something that clashes and embarrass me.”
7. He said it with such a straight tone that for a second she thought he was serious. She wished she wasn’t so uptight. And then it hit her, he didn’t know what she was really like. “Oh well, I’m so glad you called then! I was going to wear this absolutely beautiful orange dress, but I guess that’s out right?”
8. “Oh yeah, to bad I’m already dressed or we might have worked something out.”
9. “Well I am in trouble then. I need to find a new dress.”
10. “What’s so hard about that?” He asked.
11. “You don’t know just how much I adore orange.” Grace shook her head and made herself sound disappointed. “I think I may have something way, way in the back of the closet, but shoes, accessories… I might need till eight to get ready.”
12. “Nope.” He said. “You said okay to seven, till seven is all you got. I can’t wait to see you again and I want to see what you put together. But I’m sure you will look stunning in anything you put together.”
13. “You are such a flirt!” Grace laughed into the phone. This wasn’t as hard as she thought it would be.
14. “Me? No I am just a guy. Tell me you don’t get men driving you crazy for dates all the time?”
15. “Uhm…” if he only knew how un true that was.
16. “Then tell me how amazingly lucky I am you decided to go out with me.”
17. They talked on the phone for a while longer. It was so easy to do. She never laughed this much her sides were aching. She was lying on her back and rolled to the side, catching a glance at the clock. “On no!” She said, sitting upright in her bed.
18. “What? What’s wrong?” Dominic asked through the line.
19. “It is six thirty!”
20. “I know I’m heading out to pick you up now.”
21. “You didn’t tell me it was six thirty! I need to get ready I’m still in a towel from the shower.”
22. “Is it white?” Dominic asked, catching her off guard.
23. “Uhm yes, it is. Why do you need to know that?”
24. “Well white matches red. It matches everything.” She could hear him smiling. “Fix your hair and you sound ready to me.”
25. She laughed, “I don’t think so, and I’ll see you when you get here.” Still giggling she hung up.
26. “That sounded like it went well.” Jen said from the doorway, already dressed and ready to go. She was smiling a small evil I told you so smile. Grace threw a pillow at her, and closed the door to get dressed.
