Love Seeker {3}Authors Comments: Okay I know it's getting off to a slow start, but its about to get more interesting! Hope you enjoy it.
|
-
“Oh my word! That’s Dominic?” Grace felt herself start to hyperventilate. “I can’t meet him. He’s gorgeous!”
-
Jen tilted her head and stared with Grace as Dominic ran for the ball, blocking a shot from an opposing player. “Well, he’s no Dan, but yeah… oh yeah… I could watch him play without any of these other guys getting in the way.”
-
“I need go home. You could tell them I got sick or something.”
-
“Nope.”
-
“Why not! Jen, what am I going to say to him without getting all tongue tied? You know how I am. And look at me? A little warning this was happening so I could have dressed better would have been nice!”
-
“Cuz the game is over.” Jen simply said and waved at Dan, blew him a kiss. Then she turned to Grace. “And because here they come.” She smiled and started walking down the bleachers.
-
“I...I... but, wait! Jen!”
-
Jen ignored her so Grace made a slow show of picking up and packing their stuff, mostly Jen’s, as she had been daydreaming most of the game. But even that didn’t give her enough time to collect herself. She was walking down to hers friends before she could think of a way to hide.
-
“Here she is!” Dan beamed at her and helped her down the last steep step and onto the field. “Dom, this is Grace. Gracie meet Dominic.”
-
“Hi Grace. It’s nice to put a face to the name I have been hearing so much about.” Dominic said with an easy smile and an amazing accent. Why did she have to adore a good accent? “Dan and Jen keep telling me all about you.”
-
“Funny they haven’t said a thing about you.” Grace said then gasped. “I’m sorry that sounded so rude!” She started blushing. Oh man, why did they have to surprise her today? If she had known she would have cared a little more about how she looked. She tugged self consciously at her shirt and crossed her arms.
-
“If we told you, you never would have came Gracie. You told us before not to tell you if we were up to something.” Dan grinned. “Come here Jen I want to show you something.” He grabbed her hand and pulled her away toward the rest of the team celebrating their win before Grace could say anything else.
-
Grace felt her face flush again looking at Dominic. “I really am sorry; I didn’t mean to be rude.”
-
Dominic laughed. “Hey it’s okay, trust me. To tell you the truth they kind of surprised me too.”
-
“They did?”
-
“Oh yeah.” He laughed again. He had a great laugh Grace thought. “If I was going to meet such a pretty girl I would have preferred it not to be right after a hard game on a hot day!”
-
“Oh I… uhm… No you’re fine really. I...” She was making a mess out of this! He really looked good and he had just called her pretty! She felt like she was back in junior high and had the same butterflies in her belly that you get talking to your first crush.
-
“Hey Dom! Are you coming to the party tonight?” Someone yelled from across the field.
-
“Of course, we wouldn’t miss it. Have to celebrate winning don’t we?” He turned to Grace, “I think I should go get cleaned up.”
-
“Oh yeah okay. Well it was good meeting you.”
-
“So I should pick you up when?”
-
“I uhhhh… Pick me up? What do you mean?” Grace mentally started kicking herself.
-
“Well yeah, I mean, come to your place and take you to the party.” He was smiling harder. “I can’t show up alone. Everyone expects me to bring you and I would hate to disappoint anyone. Besides,” he winked at her. “I think you would have fun.”
-
“I don’t know, whose party is it?”
-
“Great so I should pick you up at 7 o’clock at…”
-
“Wait I didn’t say I was going.”
-
“I’ll call Jen later, maybe we can all go together, but look at those two go.”He said pointing at her two friends kissing, “I doubt I will get her alone long enough to get your number or address. So here is my number.” He borrowed a pen from a person passing by and wrote his number on her hand. “There, in case you want to call me sooner.”
-
He smiled at her. Man he had a great smile. “Okay.” She said slowly, feeling herself beginning to cave.
-
“Okay you’re going to call me or okay you’re going to be ready to go at 7? Cuz I can be there as early as,” he checked his watch, 3:30, “I can be there by 4:30.”
-
His grin was contagious. Before she knew it she was grinning back at him. “Okay I will go to the party with you, Okay I’ll be ready at 7, and okay, you can call me.” She took the pen and wrote her number on his hand as he had done to her.
-
“Hmmmm Great, I have to go clean up now.” He started backing up still smiling. “But I will give you a call later Grace.”
-
“Okay.” She felt herself blushing again. When he was gone she didn’t know what to do with herself. She liked how outgoing he was, how confident. So different from her, she wondered what her friends were thinking when they chose her.
-
“Jen! Jen where are you?” She called through the thinning crowd. “Jen?”
-
Jen came up behind her and grabbed her arm. “So…” she dragged the word out. “Do you have something you would like to say to me?”
-
“What were you thinking? Are you crazy? It will never work. Once he gets to know I am boring and have nothing interesting to say he is going to leave.”
-
“I was thinking more like thank you.” Jen said cheerfully. “And maybe wow! Jen you are the most amazing, generous and thoughtful friend ever and I will do your share of the chores for a month!”
-
Laughing Grace pulled her arm free and turned to her friend, “A month huh?”
-
“You’re right he is worth more, but I figured I being so great would give you a break.”
-
“I’m going to a party tonight. I don’t know how that happened.” Grace said. “I don’t know how I’m going to do this. What if he regrets taking me, What if we don’t hit it off or something?”
-
“Gracie, honey. You worry way too much. A party will be fun! And everyone loves you sweetie,” she rubbed her back, “seriously, no one is going to wish you weren’t there.”
