Love Seeker {2}

  1. “Grace will you breath! It’s not that bad, not everyone decided to come out in his heat. It could be a whole lot worse.” Jen said. “I think the seats are perfect. As soon as the game starts Grace it will be better everyone will spread out a little, settle down in their seats.”
  2. “I know. I hate this. Jen?”
  3. “Yeah?” Jen said still rubbing in the sunscreen she had brought. “You sure you don’t need any more?”
  4. “Is that Dan coming over?” Grace shaded her eyes and was looking across the field at a couple of figures walking in their direction.
  5. Jen jumped up at the mention of Dan and started waving him over. She was so in love Grace thought. It was nice to see. Her friend had had some pretty rough relationships in the past and Dan seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. He made her happy and didn’t take advantage. He even volunteered on the weekends as a big brother for a little guy named Chris.
  6. Grace sighed. She stopped hoping she would ever meet a guy like that. Guys who were nice were easy to find, but she just couldn’t find herself comfortable enough with anyone to trust them. Everyone lets you down sooner or later. She watched as Jen took Dan in a big hug and started kissing him and talking low, laughing.
  7. “They go good together don’t they?”
  8. Grace jumped and turned around to see Seth, another friend of hers.
  9. “Yeah they do.” She turned to face him. “Don’t you guys start soon?”
  10. “Yep. Dan actually said he needed to talk to you so we ran out here to say hi. Dan! Get off her man we don’t have a lot of time.”
  11. “Oh Gracie,” he said slipping his arm around Jen and walking closer, “I wanted to ask you not to run off after the game. I want you to meet someone.”
  12. “Who?” Gracie said an edge to her voice.
  13. “Now don’t get nervous he is a really nice guy. His name is Dominic; I told him all about you and he...”
  14. “YOU DID WHAT?” Grace threw her hands to her mouth. “Dan you did not just set me up with a stranger did you?”
  15. “No, I know him. Great guy. Listen I just was telling him Jen and I have a great idea about getting everyone together to go up on a hike and go rafting but we didn’t know if you would go, you know cuz everyone was coupled and you would be left out. Then I thought he could join us and you two could be together.” Dan was smiling. He was actually smiling so Grace gave him her meanest glare. Dan didn’t seem to notice. “He started asking a lot of questions so I think it will really work out.”
  16. Grace turned to Jen and Seth. “You guys knew about this huh? Jen that’s why I had to come today isn’t it!”
  17.  Jen stood there with a hopeful expression on her face. Seth was just looking down at the ground, “Seth?” Grace tried, “Why can’t we go together? I mean as friends you know.” She added quickly.
  18. “I’m not going. I didn’t know this is what you needed to talk to her about man.” He turned on Dan. “This is stupid and we need to go.” With that he turned and walked off.
  19. Grace felt her face flush. She had just asked out Seth! She knew she was nervous over her friends attempt at a blind date, but Seth? She knew how he felt.
  20. Dan kissed Jen one more time, looked at Grace and pointed to her as he trotted off after Seth. “Don’t leave after the game.”
  21. It was a long game, usually something Grace enjoyed watching, but today all she could think of was what in the world her friends must think of her.  Was she that desperate? And even Seth had come. She had had a crush on Seth for the longest time, they had flirted back and forth about two years ago, but when she had gotten the nerve to ask him out herself, thinking he was a shy guy, he had told her that he was flattered but wasn’t dating at the moment. She had later over heard him talking to some other guys about her. She had heard him say he couldn’t believe she thought she had a chance. That he didn’t want to hurt her feelings but he wouldn’t date her if she were the last girl on earth. She was bound to be alone. Grace cringed at the thought. And Seth had seemed like the type of guy you could trust. This is why she was alone. Grace was afraid to have her heart broken. People always let you down, and although she was longing to be loved and be free like her friends, she never had to hurt as they did when a relationship fell apart. When they gave their heart to someone to hold and they dropped it. Shattered it.
  22. “Gracie! Snap out of it hun.” Jen was shaking her shoulders. “Where are you? The game is almost over!”
  23. “What? I’m here, but the game just started how could…” She trailed off, the score stood at 3 to 5 with Dan’s team in the lead. “Oh wow, I was gone. I was just remembering last year and thinking.”
  24. Jen scooted closer to her and put her hand on Grace’s knee. “Sweetie stop worrying will you? It is going to be alright. Dominic is a really nice guy, Outgoing, fun, loves to talk and loves people. I want you to have fun and meet people. I love you and wouldn’t set you up with someone knowing how you are if I didn’t think it would work.”
  25. “Okay.” Grace blew out a puff of breath and tried focusing on the game. Instead, even though she tried her best not too, she found herself picking out who she knew on the team and who might be her friends choice of ‘date’ for her.
  26. “Hun?” Jen said.
  27. “Yes?” Grace answered still staring at the field.
  28. “You look tense again. Breath,” Jen said encouragingly, “and focus. The ball is on the other side of the field. Everything will be okay if you calm down.”
  29. “Who is that?” Grace pointed to the field, where a very attractive looking new player stood. He had dark hair and tan lean frame.
  30. Jen smiled and put her arm around Grace. “It took you long enough! That is Dominic.”
