1. “Mike please calm down. You’re upset about last night and so everything seems worse than….”
2. “Calm down!” Mike interrupted, “You want me to calm down! I came over here to talk things through with you and you tell me to calm down! After your neighbor attacked me?” He glared at Kylie, and got up in her face. “Do you know what you did last night?”
3. At that Kylie looked up from the spot on the ground she had been studying.
4. “Of course you don’t, you left. You came in and paraded around in that ridiculous dress that hardly covers your ass and then cause a huge scene that I had to...”
5. “Stop.” Kylie said. She didn’t want to hear it. “Stop Mike.”
6. “Stop? Or what Kylie? You need to hear what happened so you can fix it. I swear if you ever do that to me again and make me look like an ass in front of my friends I’ll…”
7. “You’ll what Mike? Tell me. If you won’t stop talking, tell me what exactly what you will do, and I’ll tell you what I will do.” Kylie was mad, she had had enough. She stared eye to eye with Mike listening to him breath heavy. He scared her like this, but she was leaving for New York. She was never more sure than right now. She needed to get away.
8. Mike took a step closer and Kylie stepped back. “Now you’re threatening me?” He looked shocked. “Are you totally Stupid?”
9. “Shut up!” Kylie screamed. “Stop! I’m tired of it Mike. You do nothing but put me down and I deserve better than that. I am not happy anymore. You have changed.”
10. Mike reached out with one hand and grabbed her arm pulling her closer. His grip was tight and it made Kylie wince.  Then before she could say anything else he punched her, knocking the wind out of her. She doubled over holding her stomach and he released her. “What happened to you? You used to listen to what I told you. Now you’re just acting like a spoiled fucking bitch.” He spat.
11. She backed away from Mike until the back of her knees hit the couch and she fell back into the cushions.
12. “You need to go apologize for the way you acted in front of my college buddies last night. Especially Sam and Alex. You have my best friends thinking some pretty messed up stuff about me.”
13. “No.” She said under her breath still looking at the floor.
14. “What?”
15. “No.” She said it a little stronger. “I’ll say it one last time Mike, Stop. Leave me alone. I’m done, and you need to get out. Now. Don’t come back.”
16. She didn’t see the first punch, or the second. By the time she got her arms up over her head she was already crying out from a punch to the stomach. Winded she tried to get up and was pushed back down. Desperate now she lunged to the side and knocked over the side table breaking a lamp. Mike was in a rage hitting her when he could reach, but satisfying himself by screaming obscenities and throwing everything he could pick up when she wasn’t in reach.
17. Kylie lost track of time, hiding where she could. Mike had never acted this way before and she was at a loss at what to do. Finally a knock at the door stopped Mike long enough to hear the police on the other side. “We have reports of a domestic disturbance at this address,” a short balding officer said as he opened the door and walked in on the scene. “What is going on here?”
18. The officer looked from Mike to Kylie. “Mam, are you okay?” Then before he let her answer, he came to her side and helped her up off the floor. “Robert, call the paramedics, Sir,” he said to Mike, “You are under arrest for assault.”
19. As Kylie passed by Mike she looked up long enough to say “Don’t come back.” Then let the officer walk her out to an ambulance. The cold air shocked her when it hit her and she realized she still had not changed. Someone placed a blanket around her, and before they closed the doors, she saw Jake looking concerned, standing across the street, holding a phone, and talking to an officer.
