1. “Kie, Kie Where are you?” Amber screamed into her ear when Kylie answered her cell phone. “I have been calling forever! Are you okay?”
2. “I’m fine Amber, I just needed time to cool down I don’t know what got in to me. I guess I just had enough for the night and…”
3. “Don’t make excuses you where great! You totally caught him off guard, he never saw it coming. Oh I wish I got a picture of it! He so deserved it.”
4. “I think what caught him off guard was you jumping on his back. Thanks for that. It gave me a chance to just get out of there. So, uhm, how is he?” Kylie asked.
5. “Oh yeah well, that’s kind of why I needed to find you. He isn’t doing too well, he is a mean drunk, well meaner, and he took a beating after you left. I actually had to stop Sam and Alex. They had no idea he could act like that!” Amber stopped. “Do you want to come over for the night Kie?”
6. “No.” Her voice was quiet. “I have had a long day and I’m about two blocks from home now. I think I will just crash. Talk to you later Amber.”
7. “Okay sweetie good night.”
8. “Oh wait! Amber are you still there?”
9. “Yeah?”
10. “I got in.”
11. It was a few seconds before Amber realized what she was saying, then the screaming began. “AAAAAHHHH KIE KIE I KNEW IT I KNEW IT!!! This is great, now I have a reason to run away to New York and…”
12. Kylie laughed and said good night with Amber still screaming and making her vacation plans. It was going to be interesting telling Mike she was leaving, but right now she didn’t care.

15. The next morning Kylie woke and rolled over onto her side. She hated waking up and loved that she had nothing to do today. She stretched and kicked the off covers. She had made it into New York School of the Arts! Something so big, something she had wanted so badly for so long, she had been afraid to apply herself. Thank God she had friends who believed in her.
16. Her smile faded then as she thought about Mike. He hadn’t and it had only fed her disbelief in herself. She had almost missed her chance. She rubbed her face and sat up. She would hear from him today. Kylie moaned into her hands. This was nothing new, and it was always the same. He would show up with some flowers and an excuse meant to make her feel horrible for thinking bad of him, that he did whatever it had been because he cared for her.
17. She heard screaming outside her window and stood up to go see who it was. Bobby Stevens was out there throwing snowballs at passing cars and people. She wouldn’t put it past him to have hidden rocks or ice inside. Kylie watched as bobby picked up another snowball take aim and throw a fast pitch at the car coming down the street. A small black car that looked a lot like… “Oh no!” Kylie cried and ran down to the front door. She threw open the door just in time to see Mike getting out and storming up to Bobby.
18. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” Mike got right up in Bobby’s face. “You actually think I am going to let you get away with that?”.
19. Mike was a big guy and it was rare not to see anyone back down when he got in their face. As much as she didn’t like Bobby, Kylie didn’t really know who she would vote for in this fight.
20. As she heard Bobby and Mike exchanging some pretty colorful language, Kylie sighed and slipped on some shoes and a coat over her t shirt and pajama bottoms and went outside to collect Mike. She sighed when she saw the black eye he had. This was not going to make it any easier. He hated showing any kind of weakness.
21. “Mike!” She called out, “just leave him, and let me get you something hot to drink. Just come in here.”
22. “Did you see what this asshole just did to my car?” Mike stepped even closer to Bobby who was not backing down. That fact just egged Mike on and Bobby knew it.
23. “It is done, this won’t fix anything. I think your car is okay.”
24. That was the wrong thing to say. Mike let go of Bobby with a threatening glare and stormed off to his car and pulled out the flowers he had brought for her. He threw them at her, they hit her and fell to the ground. “Now I know you do not even care. Look at you out here at this time in your pajamas. Do you even have any sense of common courtesy?”
25. “Mike,” Kylie said with a warning tone, “you are upset. Let’s go inside and talk about this.” She knelt down to pick up the flowers and heard bobby snort like a pig.
26. “Bob, dad wants you.” Kylie heard and turned to see Jake looking at her while trying to get Bobby to back off.
27. Bobby shrugged Jakes hold off and started backing up while still looking at Mike and Kylie. “Look Jake, trouble in paradise. Princess pork here can’t keep her man happy. Bet you got that black eye from her didn’t you. What did you do try to eat one of her cookies?”
28. Kylie flinched and went back to collecting the flowers.
29. “Man come on,” Jake said, “don’t make dad any angrier.”              
30. Mike stormed off into Kylie’s house and Bobby went into his. Kylie followed slowly after Mike dreading the way this day was starting. She looked back over her shoulder to see Jake watching her. He looked for a minute before turning into his house already filled with the sounds of fighting going on inside. Kylie realized as much as she was dreading a very predictable fight, she was lucky she didn’t live with fighting 24/7. She was feeling sorry for Jake.
