1. Rose opened her eyes slowly to the sun in her eyes. Why was she so cold? She moved to pull her blanket closer and the pain and resistance her stiff body gave her brought memories at once to come flooding back. She turned and checked on the mystery man beside her and saw that he was still out cold. When she checked his watch it was 9 am. We have been down here four hours already. Rose took the watch off him and tucked him in tighter, He hasn’t woken once. What if he is not okay? I need help!

3.             She stood up slowly and started to stretch carefully, allowing her body to get used to movement and warm up a bit. “Mmmmm…” Rose heard the groan coming very lightly from her right, but when she turned she saw nothing. She stopped moving and breathing so all was quiet.

5.             “Mmmmmm…” Again, the moan came, still faint but definitely coming from the right. To the right and down the hill, Rose continued holding her breath as she followed the sound. She tried not to get her hopes up as she was led back to the car. She could have sworn she checked this whole area the night before, but honestly it was late, she was confused and scared, and she didn’t remember much at all.

7.             As Rose crawled back over the broken piece off guard rail and looked down the mountain side at the crushed neon, she saw him. “James?” She whispered it, afraid it was her imagination, but then she saw him move. “JAMES!” She forgot about her own pain as she fell down the slope towards him.

9.             He was lying in a small ditch just under the car. He was bloody and bruised, and in obvious pain, but he was there. Rose was crying with joy when she reached him. She was so happy he was alive she wanted to grab hold and never let go, but because of his angle and the position of the car she was forced not to. “Rosie…” He said in a weak whisper, “Where were you? I’ve been so worried!” His voice was quiet and scratchy. He reached up and touched her face.

11.             “I’m here! Right here! I have been looking for you Jay!” Rose was crying but smiling as she grabbed his palm and was kissing it over and over again before bending down to reach his face. That is when she noticed the difference. Down in his ditch it was warmer. The car had formed a blockade against the wind and blowing snow, keeping James warm. “It’s a miracle Hun, you’re alive, I’m alive, even the other driver is alive, but he has been unconscious. We need help though Jay, I don’t know where we are or where to go to get help, and Can you get out? Do you think…” She trailed off as he put his hand over her mouth.

13.             “Calm down Hun,” James whispered back, his voice weak. “Let’s take one thing at a time. I need a little help getting out then we will think of what to do.” He smiled as she nodded, “That’s my girl. My twisted knee is too hurt to help me free my right foot. Help me pull out okay?”

15.             Rose stood behind him and pulled with all her weight until James freed himself. “Good. I was so worried babe.” He turned and took her in his arms brushing her hair down as she held on.

17.             “I want to go home Jay.”

19.             “I do too Rosie.” He whispered in his weak voice as he looked straight up the mountain. How the hell am I going to convince you to do what I need you to do though? He thought as he continued to whisper “We will go home, its okay babe, we will go home. Just stay strong for me okay?”
