1. “This is all my fault!” Rose yelled through the car window in frustration.  She hit the car dashboard “Stupid…Stupid…Stupid! James I’m sorry.”
2. James was sitting next to her warming his hands by the heater. “Babes, calm down you didn’t cause the weather or for the car to get stuck.” He laughed. “Just relax and think of it as a chance to spend some extra alone time with your wonderful hot fiancé.” He winked at her and grinned again.
3. Rose loved that smile, his laid back attitude and his confident nature. He was so her opposite and she loved everything about him. Well, she thought, except his horrible taste in movies and food. She grinned at this. That’s part of what makes him him I guess.
4. “There!” James smile grew as he leaned over to give her a kiss. “That’s better, keep smiling. Now I’ll get out and push some more, Just let me thaw out a bit.”
5. “I shouldn’t have insisted we come up here in this weather, and at this time! It’s almost dark. I was just so excited Jay. I wanted to tell them in person about our engagement.”  She looked at her ring then over at the road. “Ugh!! I hate mountain roads and snow!”
6. “I know sweetheart.” James leaned in for another kiss.  “Now can I please talk to you about how we are going to get out of this? I love you but the more you talk the darker its getting outside.” When she nodded he continued. “Don’t hold down on the gas pedal. I think if we rock the car we have a better chance of getting out. Just keep tapping the gas.”
7. “Okay.” Rose said
8. James stepped out onto the shoulder of the road next to the guard rail the separated the little dodge neon from the drop off of the road. He was glad he had talked Rose into sliding over into the driver’s seat instead of walking around. If she had seen how close they had come to the edge he knew she would have lost it. The truth was it was hard not to lose it himself every time he got next to the railing. It was a straight drop down. When he shivered he wasn’t sure if it was from the cold, the idea of the drop or the memory of them hitting the ice and spinning out on that lonely mountain road.
9. “Okay, GO!” James shouted at Rose. She hit the gas then let up as James pushed as hard as he could. He was rocking the car, letting its own momentum pull itself out of the snowdrift it was stuck in. Rose squealed in delight when the car started to move forward, but soon she started sliding again. As fast as it went forward, the car turned. Its rear bumper hit James and knocked him down. He hit the ground and twisted his knee, but kept his eyes on Rose. She managed to control the car as it slid backwards and stuck itself again in the snow bank.
10. “Are you okay?”  James called to Rose.
11. “I’m fine, what about you?” She got out of the car and slid her way over to James concern in her face.
12. “I think I twisted my knee.” He tried to stand and fell back gasping. “Yeah, it’s twisted. Can you help me back to the car?”
13. “Yeah but we are stuck again.” Rose said as she supported James as he hopped back to the car.
14. “Well we will have to wait; someone will be by sooner or later right?”
15. They sat and talked for a few hours about their plans. “I don’t think anyone is coming hun,” Rose said “No service on the phones, no one knows we are here, and I’m tired!”
16. “Lay down baby, Get some rest. I’ll watch for someone.” James told her.
17. “Okay.” She laid down putting her head on his lap. “Jay?”
18. “Yes Rosie?”
19. “I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you.”
20. He smiled down at her, tracing her lips with his fingers. I love you to Rosie, so much.”
21. Rose drifted off to sleep but awoke with a start at the sound of James screaming. The truck coming around the icy corner was going too fast and slid just as they had done. Only this time instead of the guard rail, it was James and Roses car it hit.
22. The last thing Rose heard was James scream. She saw the lights of the truck getting brighter and the look of fear across James’s face as their car was pushed over the edge, and then it all went black.
