1. He looked at her and asked “Are you nervous?”
2. “Well,” he didn’t know he was making her nervous, “I do have to meet with the doctor in awhile.  I don’t know what to say to him and doctors scare me. Can I just run away?”
3. He smiled “You sure can, anything is possible with Joe.”
4. He looked so sweet. “I think we should go.” She looked at his watch because she felt like she was staring to long.
5. “Oh right… No worries.” He said as he stood up and took out his wallet. “I will take care of this; just take Sandra to the car will you?”
6. “Sure!” Jenny smiled at Sandy and picked her up. After collecting all her stuff she walked toward the door. She heard a phone ring and Joe answer “Hello,” but didn’t think much of it until she reached the door.
7. “Leave me alone!” She heard Joe start to scream and looked back. He was definitely angry at someone. She hurried little Sandy out of the diner and away from the scene that was playing out inside. She settled the little girl inside the car. She kept an eye on the big window of the diner as Joe continued to yell. Finally he shoved his phone in his pocket and went to the restroom.
8. When Joe walked to the car it was obvious he had been crying. She kept quiet. If he wanted to talk he would.  It stayed silent the whole way to the hospital. “I don’t know how to thank you for everything Joe.” She said when they finally pulled up out front.
9. “Don’t mention it Jenny, I would walk you back in but I would never get her back to sleep.” He motioned to the sleeping baby in the backseat.
10. “It’s ok. I better go though; I’m supposed to meet the doctor soon. Will I see you again?”
11. “I’m sure we will.” He smiled, “Good luck with your mom. You need to be with her right now but if you need to talk or just get out for awhile,” he handed her a piece of paper, “give me a call ok?”
12. She took the paper and smiled, then leaned over and kissed him on the cheek before she lost her nerve. “Thanks but you might regret doing that. I’ll talk to you later.”
13. “Bye.” He said then drove off.
14. Jenny watched for a bit then turned and hurried into the hospital. She went straight to the nurse’s station to let them know she was there. When Marcy led her into the doctors’ office, the first thing she noticed was a man sitting there. It took her a minute before she screamed. “ANDREW!!!”
15. He turned in his seat and stood just in time to catch Jenny in his arms. “I am so happy..” She couldn’t finish her sentence.
16. “It’s okay, I’m here now. I’m so sorry Jen, so sorry.”
17. “Have you seen mom yet?”
18. “Yeah I spent the day with her.” He grinned, “I heard the nurse complain about just getting you out of here.” He kissed the top of her head. “Thank you for finding me Jen, I never would have forgiven myself.”
19. “Ehm..” The doctor cleared his throat. “I’m sorry but I have some things we need to discuss.”
20. They sat down and listened as the doctor explained the problem. “We may never know what caused your mom to crash. She was on so many medications it affected our tests. We seemed to have stabilized her for now, but we do have a problem. She had a weak heart. This illness has caused her to go into septic shock, developed Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome, so even the breathing machine has been working at fullest capacity.” He looked between the two kids. “This has caused her heart to fail.”
21. Jenny caught her breath as Andrew spoke up, “Are you saying she is dying?”
22. “That would be the case, but I have news for you. A miracle really. We just received a donor that matches as close as you’re going to get. Do we have your permission to do the surgery?”
23. “Yes!!” Andrew spoke up, making all the plans. Jenny just sat back at a loss of words. Something about this felt odd.
