My Best Friends Brother (Ch.4)

**********1 month later***********

School was going great and I couldnt believe how much time I was spending with Shane. Even though we were a grade apart we still had gym and lunch together. We were always partners in gym and sat next to each other at lunch. But that was over quickly.

Every Friday at school they play music at lunch. Nobody ever dances to it. I was talkin to Beth and my other twin best friends Jane and Emily.

Jane started laughing hysterically.

"Whats so funny?" I asked.

"Look at Shane."

Shane was dancing on top of the steps looking like a dork. The eighth graders were laghing at him. He didnt realize it either. But I did. I stormed right across the blacktop.

"Back off. Now." I said to the eighth graders, who were known for making fun of people.

"What are you going to do, throw your mirror and lip gloss at us?"

"Come on Shane,we're leaving." I took him behind the building and said, "Look, I know you're having fun, but if those kids start to make fun of you you need to stop."

He just stood there confused. Then he left.

After school I was talking to Beth on the phone. Shane and Beth's room is separated from the main part of the house, so they have a phone in their room and in the house, but their parents have the same phone line. So if Beth is on the phone with me, anyone in the house can pick up the phone and hear us. it really sucks.

"Listen Beth I need to tell you something. I usually tell you everybody I like but there's someone you don't know about."

"Who is it?" she asked.

"He is in the sixth grade."

Beth kept asking until she got it.

"Shane?" she said in a small voice. I sighed. I nodded my head, but then remembered she couldnt see me.

"Shane?" beth repeated.

"Yeah." I said.

"You're kidding right?" she said astonished.

"No I'm not."

"This is a joke right?!"

"BETH. No it is not. I'm not kidding."

"Gosh, Heather. Im just joking. I could care less that you like my brother."

"Ok. Good. So I gotta go see you tommorow." I said relieved, then hung up.
