“Chad, where did you park?” I asked nervously
“Um, in the garage” he said doubtfully as if not understanding my intensity for the situation. This was good info though.
“Listen, if my dad finds you up here we’re both in trouble-“ he seemed to understand a little more but he still had no clue what I thought. “climb down my emergency latter” He looked baffled.
“You want me to climb out your window” he stuttered “why can’t I just hide in your closet?” he asked finally breaking away from our embrace.
“Because my dad’s not a total idiot” partial I was doubtful too but I didn’t mention that.
“Okay, fine” he finally agreed, then a sly grin slipped onto his face and he started looking all hot again. “I’ll see you tomorrow”
I gave up trying to say no and nodded my head simply.
He lowered my latter that was supposed to be in case there was a fire in the house. I went to check my make-up before my dad came up to check on me when I heard a muted thud from outside my window.
I raced to my window and looked out. Chad was sprawled on the concrete with his leg twisted at an odd angle.
“911” I screamed “Somebody call 911. He’s hurt.” I was now halfway down the stairs.
The ambulance was at the house minutes later. The entire staff had congregated outside to see what was happening.
His leg and arm was broken on his left side. He had a double concussion and was whisked to the hospital in meer minutes. Though it felt like hours to me.
I rode in the ambulance the whole time thinking, why hadn’t I just let him hide in my closet?
