The resort is a haven where tourists can find relaxation and comfort. It is where retreats take place and a place of refuge for those who seem lost. I was put in charge of supervising the closing of the office and the restaurant before we go home every evening. This had been a work-turned-habit. Novae, the chef, and Chris, the bartender, are always with me. I overheard Novae telling Chris, “Pare, why don’t you tell her the truth? When she goes home, go with her and tell her about what you feel. Don’t be too naïve.”
“Alright,” Chris said seemingly shy. Chris is handsome and has a good body build. He is also intelligent but is very much timid. He graduated in Management, and like me, he feels happier whenever he’s here at the resort. He is the bartender but he works all-around: as a janitor, a watcher, and sometimes, as a lifesaver, too, when someone’s drowning. We are very much alike in many ways and I can’t say anything against him.
As I was expecting, he accompanied me home. “I hope the new owner of the resort is a good man.” I said. “Hope so.” He was hiding something. I think I knew it since then but he had no guts to tell me directly. “I want to ask you something, if you don’t mind.”
“Of course not, what’ is it?” I asked. “Why aren’t you married?” “Ha? Ah… I don’t know. Maybe I haven’t found the right man for me yet or… or I…I can’t love a man just like that.” I was perplexed. I have not controlled the words I uttered. I know Chris likes me and I know he was, in a way, hurt with what I said. But the truth is I cannot forget the man I loved before… and the man my heart is aching for until now – it’s Jayson.
