I love you.

How much impact three small, one syllable words could have. The words bounced around in her head, not sticking to her brain, but freezing her in shock.

Sam stopped kissing her when she didn't respond. What's wrong baby? I know you love me. We are ment to be together. Sally stared at him in disbelief. He pulled her back into the kitchen, so they could almost see each other amist the dim candlelight.

To her horror, Sam bent down on one knee. Sally froze in fear of what was coming next. Sam took her hand. "Sally, beautiful Sally, will you be my bride?"

Sally stamered and mumbled something incomprehensible. But Sam smiled his dazzling movie star smile and must of took it as a 'yes', because he slipped a ring on the hand he was holding. Sally stared at it. It held a single, but moderatly large diamond. Then it came crashing down on her.

Engaged to a cute brainsick psycho, that she'd known for less than a day?!

She screamed in terror and Sam finally noticed that something was wrong. He grabbed her into his arms. "Shh, shh", he comforted her, "everything's okay." Once Sally stopped screaming and was just crying without cease Sam picked her up and carried her to another room.

He sat her and himself down in something hard, too hard to be a chair or couch. But Sally didn't care, she kept crying into his shirt. Sam stroked her hair, but stopped when that brought on another set of hysterics from Sally. So he just held her all through the night.

The next morning Sally woke up in a very uncomforable position, but she still wanted to go back to sleep. But she knew what she had to do. Her adjusting awoke Sam and he smiled at her, making what she was about to do even harder.

Sam ruffled her hair. "Morning, sleephead," he grinned.

"I can't marry you," she spat out in a haste. "I've only known you for a day, I'm only seventeen, and my family and friends have no clue where I am."

Sam just watched her.

"It's just not right, how can we make them worry?" She felt the need to include herself in the blame.

"You're...you're leaving me?" Sam asked slowly and painfully, but it wasn't even a question, yet it was.

Sally had no answer. She didn't want to abandon her life, but she didn't want to hurt Sam. Why did she care? He was some deranged kidnapper.

Then she realized it. She loved him. Not as deeply as love could get, but definatly enough to matter. After only a day. She stared down at the ring, now visable by a bit of light threw the window. Would it be that hard? Giving everything up to live with Sam. Yes, it would be hard...but so very easy. The logical and implusive sides of her brain battled and argued.

".....I don't know?" She finally answered Sam's question.

To stay, or not to stay. That was the question.
