Sally awoke to the sunlight pouring into the small room where she was being held prisoner. But for some odd reason that she couldn't explain to herself, she wasn't as scared anymore. She wouldn't go as far to say that she trusted Sam, but she didn't have bad feelings about him either. Was this all because of her insane mini-crush on her kidnapper? She shook her head, clearing that thought process.
She glanced at the time. 9:43 a.m. So her family probably didn't know she was gone yet. They would most likely think that she'd gotten a ride from a friend to school. Hopefully, one of her friends would ask her brother at school where she was, and maybe then he'd realize she was missing.
A wave of pain went through Sally at that thought. What if she never saw her brother again? They were extremely close, and he often hung out with Sally and their mutual friends. What if she never saw her friends again either? She thought of the last time she talked to Lacey and the petty disagreement they'd gotten into. Would that arguement be the last thing said between close friends? Sally wished the last thing she said to everyone she knew was how much she cared about them.
She was less frightened now, but still felt uneasy. She forced herself to think about the creepiness of her stituation. She was lured into Sam's home, had proof of his obsession with her, was apparently stalked by Sam, and she could tell he'd been planning this capture for a long time. She could tell by his clothes laid out for her, and the lit candles.
She looked around for the candles. Where where they? She could have sworn that eariler several candles illuminated the room, casting an errie glow on the many pictures of herself. The candles were gone, so Sally guessed he'd come into her room and got them. She got a mental picture of Sam watching her sleep. She was creeped out by that thought, but for some morbid reason was flattered by his likings to her.
Sally stepped out of bed and flicked the light switch, but it didn't turn on. Looking to the light fixture, she realized why. No lightbulbs. That explains the candles. Weird.
The doorknob turned and Sally felt her heart race. She hoped her pulse was speeding from being anxious. Sam cracked the door open and peaked his head through the door. When he saw that she was awake, he looked at her straight in the eyes with a look of deep passion. Sally wondered if her expression back was one of confusion. He smiled a nervous smile and stepped into the room.
"Umm...are you...would you like to...eat with me.....?" He asked her, trailing off, still giving unrelenting, unbreaking eye contact. Sally felt shy with his complete focus on her.
Her eyes flickered back in forth from his to nothing in paticular. "Okay?" She answered doubtfully.
At her agreement, Sam's smile widened and his face looked as she'd just said yes to his marrage proposal. He grabbed her hand excitedly and lead her down the darkened hallway to another room. Sally guessed this room to be the kitchen, though all she could she of it was a small table. The only reason she could see this was probably because of what the table held-more lit candles.
At her surprise, he pulled out her chair for her before taking his own. Despite her still being shocked by his enthusiastic hand-holding she still noticed little details. Like that he only owned 2 chairs and the tiny table was covered in a white lacy cloth. She couldn't picture Sam buying a frilly table cloth. At closer examination, she saw to her horror, that they were going to dine on a dress. Feeling bold she asked him, "What's this dress for?"
Sam's face crinkled in confusion. "What dress?"
Sally let it drop.
"Do you like pizza?"
"Who doesn't?" Sally was astonished how easy it was to talk to him.
Sam chucked softly and handed her a plate with Pizza Hut's finest.
So we are friends? Sally asked herself.
Sally ate her lunch wordlessly, glancing up from her pizza every once in a while and seeing Sam staring at her with a delighted expression on his face, undaunted by the silence. She always imagined her first candle lit dinner to be a little different.
They finished and she was apprehensive about what could possibly be next on the agenda.
