I tried to think back when I had last had my period, I couldn’t remember exactly. “Um at least a month ago, it should be happening soon”. “I I” My breath began getting deeper and faster, I got dizzy and began to shake and my skin perspired clammy sweat. About to say something I opened my mouth but quickly closed it as warm thick juices entered my mouth and I got up and ran to the bathroom outside of the office. The doctor followed me with Dana as I began throwing up once again into the toilet. When that finally stopped I felt a lot better and Mandy stood there before me holding a cup with a blue lid and my name on it, also with a package on top of it. She told me to pea in to it and put it in the metal cabinet in the wall. I did as I was told and walked back in to the office and Many gave me a cup of what looked like foggy water and told me to drink it. “Is just to re hydrate you it has electrolytes in it”. The next thing I knew she had taken my blood and had me take a HIV test and left me sitting with Dana in the empty room waiting. Nervously I cracked my knuckles un- sure of what would happen to me. Dana could tell and she said “Don’t worry about it you can still work until you start to show and you can always get an abortion” the word echoed in my ears, I shuddered at the thought. My mom had had 3 abortions that I knew of and the first one she had waited for 6 months but she told me she couldn’t stay clean long enough and that she wouldn’t have a crack baby. After that she kept having them. I was devastated when she had her first one because I knew it was a baby boy and had already bought him an outfit. I didn’t want an abortion I didn’t care if others had them but I didn’t want one myself. I just nodded my head and looked down at the pamphlet for prostitutes. I read for a few minutes about how to stay safe while doing it, how to prevent STDs and then as I looked at how to get out of it I paused as my heart skipped a beat and then the door opened. I felt almost in trouble for even reading it, Setting it down the doctor walked in with a grave smile on her face. “Lori, you are pregnant about 3 weeks now. “WHAT!” I was shocked I didn’t think it was possible, my head hurt and i felt sick again, but before I could get over it she looked at me still grave in her face and said Lori you also have HIV.
