Our Place part 14 Heart beating fast, sweat dripping down my face I held Ethan’s hand tight. The doctors eyes looked straight into mine and then faltered away as though he was afraid to look at me in my eyes. He shuffled some papers almost like he was dreading to say what he had to but when he looked at me he was bold “Emma You have cancer, I’m not going to sugar coat it like I’d like to either, I’m sorry to say the cells look rather bad at this point and I would like to have your Dad come in with your mother to discuss treatment options”. All of this information at once hit my body, almost like being hit with a crow bar in the stomach and then being helped up and hit in the head with a shovel and then having a pile of bricks fall on top of me until I grew numb to it all and was stuck underneath them trapped and a prisoner by their weight. Tears began to form in my eyes slowly blocking the view from the doctor, I thought to myself maybe if I don’t let the tears fall, maybe if I cant see the doctor I will be ok. It didn’t work my tears began to fall fast down my cheek, Ethan squeezed my hand tighter and I leaned my head onto his shoulder. My mom looked at the doctor and then at me and asked him so what now?... The question hit me hard in the stomach knocking the breath out of me echoing through my mind and then my body, I felt dizzy my body began feeling stronger I felt If I didn’t move I would explode, and then a rush of adrenaline pumped throughout my veins, I got up and ran out of the office, I dint know where I was running but I ran, I ran until the next thing I knew the sliding doors to the building opened revealing the sweet warmth and sunshine ahead and I was free, free from everything. I felt if I ran far enough maybe my cancer would leave me, maybe I could out run it. I was wrong. My dose of adrenaline failed me as my knees began to grow weak, I started to slow except my legs couldn’t take the pressure and they buckled underneath me, My face slammed into the steaming black concrete, I heard something crack and my nose erupted with blood. It streamed over my face blinding me from the world. Then I heard it, gravel, a sqealing car and then I hit the ground with my fists yelling NOOOO! That’s when the horn blared and my body flinched. All of a sudden I heard metal hitting metal screams all around me and then Ethan screaming my name as he ran towards me.
