Reaching the car Ethan lifted me and put me in as I buckled my seat belt I waited until he got in. When he started the car and drove away from the beach I looked over the water, the beautiful blue waves summer salting in towards the sand, children jumping around the water, animals exploring its secrets. Then Ethan turned out of the lot and it was gone, gone from view, and I felt sad, like I should be there. I then closed my eyes as my stomach flipped from the uncertainty of my health, my future, my life. ……………………………………………………       “Ethan are you sure you want to come, you haven’t been home at all” “ My mother asked him in a concerned voice. I wanted him there but I felt bad for him so I added“Ya Ill be fine”.Ethan looked from my mom to me as we smiled, walking up to me he kissed my lips and said “sorry I’m here for the long run, your stuck with me”. I couldn’t help but laugh at his sincerity. As we got in the car once more my mom looked at me and said “now tell me again how you got so wet”. Laughing I replied “I told you I laid down and let the waves roll over me, Ethan tried to stop me but you know how I am.” Shaking her head mom looked at me and said “As long as you weren’t swimming”. All IO oculd murmer was “ofcourse not mother”. She was so sweet but she made me so angry at times with her criticism. One moment she was my best friend, and I could be totally honest with her, but I would do one thing wrong and she would use my honesty against me. I could hear her in the doctors office in front of the doctor if she knew I had been swimming, “Doctor she wont listen to me, she’s out swimming and doing crazy things like that”. I knew her reaction would be gentle and then angry in the long run and that is why I kept it from her, that is why I made Ethan swear he wouldn’t tell. ………………………………………  Swack, fresh air erupted into the car, Bam! The door shut, Swack a fresha air behind me filtered in and Bam! The door shut. And then I was awoken as the air hit my face and looking up at my mom and Ethan I knew it was time to go into the doctors office. Walkign in to the doctors office I tried to not make it a big deal, I tried tot ell myself I had nothing but I was so weak, a little stronger than before but still so weak. A part of me wanted to be sick so that I would no what was wrong and a part of me wanted it to be unexplained so that it would suddenly go away one day. I felt like I wanted to run away, to jump in to the ocean and live like a mermaid. ……………………………………… Sitting down with Ethan in the waiting room my mom walked up to the marble desk and a lady slid the foggy glass door open to greet her. Looking around the musty room I saw pink carpet, and fake plants in the corners of the pink carpeted wooden chairs. There were old magazines that were scattered on the tables by the seats and a couch that looked like flowers had thrown up on it. I thought to myself as I looked at the musty old tan walls this room suits its plan. Such an ugly place to tell that you have such an ugly disease, interrupting my negative thoughts I told myself don’t think like that you may not have it! Maybe I do I thought, I wish I knew! ……………………………………… Just then the answers to my wishful thinking were interrupted and a nurse walked out and called my name, I saw her, I knew my name would probably be called and yet it startled me when she came out. My heart pounded my body stopped for one instant one moment and then I felt Ethan grab my hand and squeeze it and began leading me to the door. I felt like I was being pulled in to a room that was filled with something awful, like if I walked in the room cancer would jump into my body, but I kept walking. Step by step my heart beat in unity with my walking pattern, my breath joined in with the beat creating a trio. Step, ba boom, breath in breath out. I step again, ba boom my heart beats hard and slow, my breath comes in my breath comes out. I then entered the long hallway that I thought I would have to walk down but I was brought in to an office just to the right of the door. She sat us down in a richly decorated room, with diplomas on the walls and wooden floors with a rich leather couch and what looked like a real plant in one corner. Across from the couch were maroon leather chairs two of them with golden buttons fastened on them. Facing a cherry wood desk and a black leather rolling chair with a silver flat screen computer to the right of us. As a knock hit the door I gasped and Ethan held my hand tighter as we all three sat on the couch me in the middle. Frightened and scared, the tall doctor in a white coat and a bold step walked in to the room, smiling down on us with his square smile and his black hair and dark brown eyes. I shuddered for the smile looked forced, the smile looked altered, I wondered did he fake a smile often. He knew what was wrong and he just stood there and smiled. That’s when he moved though behind his desk, he looked protected as he cleared his throat and sighed. He began with my name, Emma I know you all know I have some news for you. ……………………………
